Mozart ’s “ Missa in C major ” (K. 220) nicknamed the “Sparrow Mass” for its frequently recurring characteristic motifs in the violins has retained a firm place in the choral repertoire to the present day. Now it has been arranged for female choir and is appearing as part of the recently started “Bärenreiter Female Choir” series. Heribert Breuer has judiciously transferred the tenor and bass solos to the high voices and incorporated the original soprano and alto parts largely unchanged into the solo and chorusparts. He has thereby retained the work’s original substance while giving it a wholly new and delightful sound. Heribert Breuer was professor of choral conducting and music theory at Berlin University of the Arts until 2010. He is the founder and director of the Berlin Bach Akademie and has made a name for himself with his many arrangements of works from Bach to Schubert. The vocal score is compatible with the performance material of the original work for mixed chorus BA 5343.

The series of symphonies in the New Schubert Edition is a milestone of modern scholarly-critical editing lending these works a transparency lacking in earlier editions of a more romantic bent. This CD (including music booklet) has not especially been worked out for the use in musical education. It is on the contrary an audio CD which has been recorded for sale as a trio CD under my name. Mixing the recordings at the studio however gave us the idea to offer this CD Legal Paradizer also as a play along CD. For this reason I have never taken a pedagogic approach to the musical conception of the pieces performed which in my opinion is exactly what makes these recordings so unique. The structure of none of the pieces is for instance as simple as that of the tunes on some other play along CDs. Therefore I have taken the liberty of adding a short explanationand/or comment on every piece meant to make it easier for you to follow the road map of the tunes. Additionally I have explained some stylistic features to help you interprete the individual pieces. Working with my students has shown me how much fun it can be to also offer groove and funk oriented music on a CD to play along. In most of the pieces you do not necessarily have to follow the changes; you should rather develop simple ideas in time. A real strong emphasis is here placed on the term groove.

Sonate En Fa Mineur- from 'Sonate for Flute and Harpsichord'

Brocéliande is a piece for Harp by Annie Challan . Lasting 2'30 minutes this piece was written for elementary level (upper beginner / intermediate level). It can be played on lever or pedal Harps as there are only a few accidentals. This tribute to the magical forest is the perfect piece to be played in recitals. Annie Challan (born in 1940) is a French Harpist who was the youngest player at the Paris Operas when she started working there. She composed numerous pieces for the Harp.

21 Chorals du Dogme Prélude et Fugue en Mib- As one of the most famous contributors to classical music ever to have lived Johann Sebastian Bach 's (1685-1750) catalogue is extensive. Moreover being an organist himself his Organ works are significant and remain ever-popular to this day. When French organist Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) compiled the series of Bach 's Complete Organ Works it was well-received and to this day remains popular with all organists. The eighth volume includes a favoured selection of Bach 's works including 21 chorales and his Prelude and Fugue in E flat. In addition Dupré 's annotations in CompleteOrgan Works comprise fingerings rules on technique and instructions on ornamentation among other aspects. This compilation of J. S. Bach 's most loved compositions for the Organ cannot be missed by aspiring performers of the instrument.

Les Corps Glorieux by Olivier Messiaen is a composition that exhibits his Roman Catholic faith. Written for Organ in 1939 it is a mix between Indian music and Gregorian Plainsong. Inspired by Japanese music he had a very special way of composing and his work can be identified by its complexity its diatonic aspect its harmony with limited transposition its colour and its additive rhythms. He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong including the 'Bird Catalogue' in 7 volumes and the 'Treatise on Rhythm Colour and Ornithology' in 7 volumes.

His Trois petites Pièces were composed in Grandjany 's early career and are simple and enjoyable works suitable for beginner harpists. Grandjany was a teacher of Harp at the Julliard School for 37 years whilst also composing and transcribing many works for the instrument. Made up of three movements Trois petites Pièces begins with a delicate Rêverie (daydream). The second piece a Nocturne contains variations in tempo time signature and dynamics. The Barcarolle third movement is the most challenging of the three pieces accommodating the key of G? major 6/8 time signature and semiquaver flourishes. All these combined aspects of Trois petites Pièces by Grandjany make for a thrilling performance for beginner harpists. Works from the 16th century to the beginning of the 18th century for Guitar Lute or Vihuela arranged for Harp by Monique Rollin.

Despite the pressures of his teaching position Franz Schubert created a particularly large number of works in the year 1815. Besides around 140 new Lieder he composed the second and third symphonies four stage works the first important compositions for piano the String Quartet in G minor (D 173) and two Masses: the Mass in G major (D 167) and the Mass in B-flat major the object of this edition. Considering that the Mass in F major (D 105) was written from May to July 1814 and the Mass in C major (D 452) during June and July 1816 we can see that Schubert composed four of the six complete Mass settings which have survived from his hand within the short span of twoyears. The Mass was presumably first performed in Lichtental shortly after its completion. The fact that some partly autographic parts – the organ part three soprano and three alto parts – were made around 1820 seems to point to a second performance. And from Schubert’s brother Ferdinand we know that the Mass was performed a third time at the parish church in Hainburg at the beginning of October 1824 since Ferdinand played the organ on that occasion.
