“Codon” is a term used in the field of molecular genetics to describe the interaction between the three elements that are important for both the creation and the preservation of life. Kevin Houben uses this term as a metaphor for the interaction between the conductor the musicians and the committee of a concert band. They all have the same goal to preserve the life of the band. This work consists of three movements symbolising birth life and death - either of a human being or a band. From the foundation of a band over good and bad times up to the optimistic future this work will appeal to the soul of every band member in the world!

Long understated and unfairly relegated to the accompaniment the tenor horn has gained prominence in the brass band during recent years.Horns Enjoying Themselves is an entertaining piece that will delight performers and audience alike. The first part is inspired by circus with playful themes featuring humorous dissonances. The second part is a slow and calm journey through the mellow and luminous sound colours of the tenor horn. Sir Granville Bantock (1868-1946) was a British composer conductor and educator. He channelled his energetic and creative personality into many musical projects championing the works of Jean Sibelius founding the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and composing many splendid classical pieces. Viewed by his contemporaries as out-of-date his music is now being appreciated as one of the last great contributions from theEnglish Romantic movement.
