The composer writes: The concept of Mary has a depth that transcends all religious persuasions. All over the earth symbols of the gentle and maternal are known. But the word 'Maria' is also associated - in sound - with the Latin word for the sea mare and she thus becomes the Star of the Sea Maris stella. Their simplicity makes it possible to grasp the music'soften complex interweaving of concurrent melodies and tempo layers. Nova Genitura was composed directly in the context of the ending of the Third Symphony in 1975: it also incorporates melodic and harmonic themes from the symphony (the 'Maria' motifs of the second part). However the work is combined with a newly-created song (the Flosutrosa melody) whose Golden Section rhythms gave the melody a 'stamina' that carried it over into many later compositions. The two Maria themes and the Flosutrosa melody are based on direct 'extracts' from the Nørgårdian infinity series. The evergreen My Way originally a French chanson (Comme d’Habitude) was written by Jacques Revaux and Gillies Thibault and first released by Claude Francois in 1967. Paul Anka wrote the English lyrics which were used by Frank Sinatra who made it in to the American charts with his world famous interpretation in 1969. Since then the song has been covered by a variety of pop stars including Elvis Presley. This arrangement is based on the Elvis version and within it the chorus appears in a swinging blues style. This popular song will be ideal for that spectacular ending to your concert.

This attractive concert march starts with an elevated determined intro followed by a playful theme in the descant register - with in the reprise an added counterpart in the tenor register. The following stately bass solo is accentuated by the trumpet section and a dynamic contrasting effect adds extra colour. The trio part starts with a new cantabile theme which transforms into a solid tutti version with ornamentations in the descant. After a dynamically varying interlude the trio part is repeated.

Toccatissimo- Toccata (from the Italian toccare 'to touch to hit') is one of the oldest names for instrumental pieces and describes a musical form that is usually comprised of several parts. Each part is constructed from a musical idea such as for example chords runs or imitations of a short motive. Toccatissimo is a composition that consists of several parts executed in different tempos. The main key is G-major. The work begins with fast runs that move in upward and downward sequences. After this a quiet motive follows with fast interjections following from the first part this time however in A-major. The next theme in A minor alternates between 4/4and 3/4 measures. After a short cadence a merry waltz sounds which is then followed once again by the first part in G-major. After a short cadence a blues is performed that is interrupted by a rhythmic block. The quiet section that now follows segues to the first motive as a fiery finale.
