Inspired by his Solid Liquid sculptures, which are sold in the world's leading galleries, he returns to the magic of the reflective, precious and unfathomable material. What interests me is the imperfect geometry, and the dynamic of the form and this piece perfectly reflects the essence of Arik Levy's work. The symmetry of the form is disrupted by the movement of the material, the candle's flame giving the object a living dynamism. For an extra surprise, try placing the candlestick into the shadows and you will discover the poetry of the light reflecting from the object's base. The candlestick designed by Arik Levy is produced from Bohemian glass, using the traditional method of blown and silvered glass. This procedure is well suited to providing a heat-resistant and reflective surface and that is unique to human touch. The magic of glass is that sand is transformed into a liquid when heated before solidifying in an instant, which is why glass-blowers need to be particularly skillful. Several stages were required to produce the candlestick. First a mould was created based on an original drawing by Arik Levy. Then the magical ingredients of the glass were heated to the correct temperature and blown into the mould. A double wall is required to hold a further layer of silvering solution which slides between the glass to create a mirror effect. As soon as the piece is dry, it is carefully sealed to hold its precious contents, perfectly respecting the designer's original drawings.
