Alessi Basket Polished steel Metal Ø 26 x H 7 cm Nautilus is a mollusk from the cephalopod family. Considered extinct based on the discovery of fossils dating back to the Paleozoic Era, only in 1829 was it observed alive for the first time, and therefore classified as a living fossil. Its shell, imported through trade with the East Indies, was well known and used in jewelry as early as the seventeenth century. The shell's highly characteristic structure was the inspiration for the Trinity Bowl: every year another chambre is added to its shell, producing a beautiful, durable and lightweight spiral. The young Australian designer's intent was to blend the beauty of a natural structure with modern manufacturing processes.
