Trinity Sunday Mass- The Missa in honorem SS:mae Trinitatis K.167 is Mozart's only mass bearing a dedication in its title and the only one written for chorus and orchestra without vocal soloists. We do not know the occasion for which the mass was written although it was undoubtedly related to the dedication. Perhaps it was first performed on Trinity Sunday 1773 since the autograph bears the date Giugno 1773 and Trinity Sunday fell an 5 June that year. The heavy scoring - for two oboes two clarini two trombe timpani two violins bass and organ - suggests that the mass owes its origin to a special festivity. Opéra en cinq actes- Against the background of the July Revolution of 1830 two libretti were written for the Grand Opéra in Paris by Eugène Scribe probably the best-known poet of the July Monarchy: “ La Juive ” and Les Huguenots'. Both operas are closely related to the politicial history of France. Fromental Halévy composed La Juive in 1835 and Giacomo Meyerbeer “Les Huguenots” in 1836; there are almost identical passages in the libretti of the two operas. From first sketch (1832/33) to the final version the libretto of La Juive was extensively revised; even the allocation of roles was different in the beginning. “ LaJuive ” stands in the long tradition of operas going back to the 17th century where the misdeeds of the powerful are held before our eyes as a warning and deterrent. The premiere took place on 23 February 1835. The opera became a great success with the public and was vigorously discussed in the contemporary press. On the autograph Leopold Mozart inscribed the title Missa but at the incipit on the old cover of the autograph collection he wrote Missa brevis. This points to the lack of standardization and uncertainty of the nomenclature. Although the work is written in the brevis form it calls for additional instruments besides the usual church trio which assigns it to the genre of the brevis et solemnis mass. Mozart added two oboes whose parts he wrote out himself and which are enclosed together with the primary copy. The two oboe parts seemto have been unavailable to any copyists.
