His expertise led him to compose significant works for the instrument. His sublime Sonata in C is superbly arranged for Alto Saxophone by contemporary French saxophonist Jean-Marie Londeix. Leclair 's Sonata in C for Violin is one of his most prolific and best remembered works. Londeix 's arrangement for Saxophone of Leclair 's Sonata in C includes adaptions for the instrument such as dynamics phrase marks performance and tempodirections articulation and breath marks. Londeix 's rearrangement for the Saxophone of Leclair 's popular Sonata in C is exquisite making the baroque genre accessible to the Saxophone a relatively modern instrument.

The first piece Variations sur un thème de Clément Jannequin (Variations on a Clément Jannequin's tune should be played in the same way as Couperin's Préludes: freshly and softly. It contains four distinctive parts: Affetuoso Maggiore Fuggato and Grave. The second piece is called Le jardin suspendu (The hanging garden) and features three different parts that can't be played separately. Thelast piece Litanies is quite religious and consists of the repetition of lamentations. Its introduction in Vivo is played only by the right hand then followed by a Lirico ma sempre vivo part. These are followed by switches between the main tempo and some Vivacissimo parts sounding declamatory. This third piece ends really harmoniously. Jehan Alain is a French organist who became famous with his Suite for Organ . Student of Marcel Dupré and Roger Ducasse among others he kept composing all his life. One of his most famous international pieces is 'Litanies'.

Angels for String Quartet by Joan Tower was composed in 2008 and premiered on August 31 2008 in Angel Fire NM performed by the Miami String Quartet. Angels is my fourth quartet — a mediumI really love. In fact when Ida Kavafian asked me what I wanted to write for the Festival I immediately said string quartet. Having written three prior quartets and gotten to travel extensively around the world of quartets Ihave come to love the way string quartets are so deeply creative and passionate about the music they play. They are really like four 'composers' at work. Angels is about 18 minutes long in one movement and isdedicated to the people who helped my younger brother George survive a major stroke this year. They include my sister Ellen a former student of mine (Erin) a doctor (Dr. Stenehjem) a nurse (Courtney) and two real estate agents(Ann and Dale). These are caring people whose generosity of spirit and love of humanity make them very special 'angels.' I am thrilled that the Miami Quartet is giving the premiere of Angels. - Joan Tower
