Variable wind quintet- Jingle Bell Rock is the name of a famous Christmas song. Ever since it was first released by Bobby Helms in 1957 it is frequently broadcast around Christmas time every year. It has been performed by many artists but the version by Helms is still the best known. Its title and some of its lyrics have been taken from the traditional Christmas standard Jingle Bells . There are also brief references to other popular songs such as Rock Around the Clock . Helms’ version of the song was performed in the crossover style known as rockabilly and nowadays it sounds more like country than rock ’n roll. A noteworthy cover version of the song was recorded by Bill Haley &his Comets (who scored an enormous hit with the aforementioned Rock Around the Clock in the 1950s) in 1968 for United Artists Records. Intended for a seasonal single release it was decided not to release the recording and it was considered lost for almost thirty years until it was eventually issued in the mid-1990s.
