‘Saxpack’ was commissioned for the centenary of the Vienna Police Orchestra whose members include one of the most prolific Austrian saxophonists Gert Kolaja. The work is composed in a very modern style incorporating many contemporary saxophone techniques. This is definitely a piece that saxophonists band and listeners will enjoy.

Fanfare and Celebration was commissioned by the Brass Band of the Western Reserve (Dr Keith M. Wilkinson director) to celebrate their 15th anniversary. Based in north-west Ohio the band was formed in 1997 and was competing in the Championship Section of the North American Brass Band Championships in less than three years. The first performance of Fanfare and Celebration took place in Akron Ohio on November 10th 2012.The opening Fanfare features the cornet section in two groups standing either side of the band. A central horn theme brings a change of mood before the cornets take the lead once more. Celebration follows seamlessly andcontinues the declamatory style until a cantando theme in uneven meter is introduced. This flashing piece was commissioned by “Het muziekverbond van West-Vlaanderen” and is dedicated to the “Arlequino” youthband.Colourfully and effectfully instrumentated this piece speeds towards its finale without any tempochanges.The chord-blocks wich characterized the introduction unite this virtuoso piece by reappearing in the end.

for Cornet and Brass Band-In this solo work - a commission for an 18th birthday present - the opening mood of a brooding modal blues gives way momentarily to a more optimistic central section. Following an emotional climax and reflective cadenza the opening material returns but now tying in with the central section and the piece fi nally ends in a more positive mood.

Authoritative Urtext edition of Johann Sebastien Bach 's Brandenburg Concerto No.4 In G BWV 1049 . The six Brandenburg Concertos BWV 1046-1051 prized jewels of the world's musical heritage were written in 1721 during Bach ’s appointment in Cöthen. Of the six works Bach originally wrote earlier versions of numbers 1 and 5 which differ not only with regard to articulation but also at times different tones different rhythms instrumentation and of course form. These Urtext publications [BA 5201-BA 5206] taken from the New Bach Edition now give performers the possibility to play these earlier versionsperhaps even along side the version known today.

August lebe lebe König from Cantata 207a-A Festive Tribute is an arrangement of a splendid chorus whichBach first used in the secular Cantata 207 of 1726 but is perhapsbetter known in its later version which appears in Cantata 207a thedescriptively titled Auf schmetternde Töne der muntern Trompeten which cannot be adequately translated but means something alongthe lines of ‘let the trumpets sound’. While the lyrics are perhaps alittle obsequious much of the music for this cantata is celebratoryand lushly scored for a large orchestra including trumpets oboesd’amore and flutes making it an ideal piece for a concert bandarrangement.
