Pop Overture for Band- Odilia is an up-tempo and joyful ode to Baume-les-Dames a village in the department of Doubs in Franche-Comté Eastern France.The title is derived from the legend of Odilia of Alsace (venerated as Saint Odilia or Odile) the daughter of the Duke of Alsace. She was born blind and literally saw the light at the age of twelve at the convent of Baume-les-Dames. From this miraculous occurrence she was dubbed Odilia — child of light.Jacob de Haan was inspired by medieval dance music for the opening of this composition. In the slow movement that follows a lyrical minor theme builds to a dramatic climax which is followed by a calm passage featuring the repeatedlyrical theme. Finally the medieval motif returns this time presented in a festive gospel version.

for Soprano Solo and Concert band- Odelettes is the title of a cycle of poems by the 19th-century French writer Gérard de Neval. In his work Trois Odelettes Jacob de Haan set three of de Neval’s poems to music for soprano voice and concert band: Une Allée du Luxembourg describes a fleeting moment of love; Espagne is a typically sounding ode to Spain; and Chanson Gothique describes the joy of life itself.

For quartet (or chorus) of male voices (two tenors bass and baritone). Lyrics by Helen Taylor. Arranged by G. Ackley Brower.

The work opens with a dramatic brass fanfare before moving to a spirited allegro. The slower middle portion is rather jazzy in character with a trumpet solo. After several statements of this lush song the faster music returns before the opening fanfare reprises closing the piece in dramatic fashion. Includes generous cross-cuing to enable performances with smaller instrumentations.

In Party Mood was first composed in 1944 for the West End Celebrity Orchestra . However it quickly became known as the theme tune to the long running Housewives’ Choice broadcast daily on the BBC Light Programme from 1946 to 1967. It has been arranged here for solo Piano and is sure to bring back fond memories of anyone who lived through the era! Jack Strachey (1894-1972) was a British composer best known for his light-hearted songs for theatre and music hall such as These Foolish Things . He later turned to orchestral works with hits including Theatreland and Pink Champagne .

This composition was written on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the De Pinte wind band. This is also the derivation of Latin title Aureus (golden - from the word aurum or gold). This work is comprised of three main sections. Thefirst and last sections are predominantly a musical setting of the concepts of celebration and joy in keeping with the theme of jubilee. The music is therefore above all dynamic energetic and extrovert. The middle section has a more introspective melodic character contemplating the subtle beauty of life. Aureus is a newly composed chorale that establishes the most important attributes in life and also within a club or association: love friendship health and happiness.

Despite the rich and lively repertoire there are only few compositions for flute and piano which can truly be called 'jazz-inspired'. This gap is now closed by Jeremy Norris with his 'Jazz Suite'.
