Messa d'morti-The Requiem in C minor by Francesco Durante (1684–1755) is one of the most important works of this genre written in the first half of the 18th century. In his Messa de’ morti Durante shows great creativity in combining traditional elements of church music with new ideas originating from instrumental writing and opera. The quality and originality of his Requiem make it an exciting rediscovery with the potential to establish itself as a core repertoire work of sacred choral music. Mainly known today as the teacher of Pergolesi and Paisiello Durante spent much of his life working as music director at various conservatories in Naples and enjoyed great renown as achurch composer well into the 19th century. Despite its widespread popularity indicated by the number of manuscript copies to be found across Europe his Requiem never appeared in print. For this first publication editor and leading British choral director Stephen Darlington has consulted many of the approximately 50 surviving sources of the work presenting a critical edition which for the first time makes Durante’s Requiem available to a wider musical audience. •First publication •Urtext edition •Particularly suitable for smaller choirs and ensembles: soprano and alto solo double choir (SSATB ATB) and strings (plus 2 horns in the Tuba mirum) •Full score and orchestral material also available (EP73044) The Requiem in C minor by Francesco Durante (1684–1755) is one of the most important works of this genre written in the first half of the 18th century. for Trumpet Euphonium and Band- Gemini Concerto was commissioned by and written for Ryukoku University (Japan) André Henry and Shoichiro Hokazono. Set in three movements the concerto aims to explore the close relationship as solo instruments between the trumpet and euphonium exploiting the many common factors between the two as well as the subtly different characteristics they possess in terms of both lyrical and rhythmic playing. The first movement is a bustling toccata and the second movement is lyrical and improvisatory in nature. A fantastic piece and a great addition to the repertoire! Overture for Young People-This piece was composed for the youth wind band at the Marienschule in Saarbrücken Germany. The title praises the importance of an education emphasizing freedom responsibility and getting to know and accepting one’s limitations in order to become a well-educated and good-hearted citizen. During the piece the composer refers to aspects of a typical school-age experience such as friendship disappointments challenges values and goals. The point is that education gives us all ‘Wings to fly’. This is a noble piece full of variety with nice sections for all instrumental groups. This piece was composed for the youth wind band at the Marienschule in Saarbrücken Germany. Chamber Version- For Percussion duo (not the concerto of the same title). What determines the special character of a piece of music written for percussion instruments is the very choice of sets of instruments. In UdacrepAkubrad I have chosen a similar set of instruments for each of the players: a marimba two Darbuka and a tom-tom. This piece draws its inspiration from the “Eastern” music extending the boundaries of the region as faras the Indian sub-continent. The main source materials in this piece are scales and the rhythms emanating from the traditional classical music of the peoples of the Mediterranean; and repetitive minimalism from the musictradition of the Middle East as well as the recently developed techniques in western music . — Avner Dorman
