The expression “groove” is often used as a term for the various rhythmic styles characteristic of Afro-American music. In fact pretty much any danceable rhythm is called a groove. This even extends to jazz a musical genre that originated in African American communities. African Groove will get the audience into the groove snapping their fingers and even up on their feet.

Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987) and George Gershwin (1898-1937) two of the best known figures in American music were good friends and often played together. Heifetz had urged Gershwin to write a violin concerto for him but unfortunately Gershwin died before the project got off the ground. These transcriptions by Heifetz are the next best thing. The five excerpts from Porgy and Bess?« and the Three Preludes are well known and Heifetz often played them as encores but the substantial concert excerpt from An American in ParisTM has never been published before and may not have been performed by Heifetz in public at all. Composed for Pedal Harp Vers La Source Dans Le Bois is a piece for advanced players composed by Marcel Tournier . Including some pedal changes the piece starts played by the right hand interpreting the water coming from the fountain with really fast notes giving a feeling of an enchanted world. The left hand completes this part with natural harmonies and the piece then follows with glissandi before coming back to the initial theme. This melodious piece is really gracious and will be nice to play and to listen to. Marcel Tournier (1879-1951) was a French harpist composer and professor whowrote many pieces that are now part of the repertoire and that extended the technical capacities of this instrument.
