The sheet music for Nico Muhly 's Doublespeak arranged for Chamber Ensemble and composed for the orchestral sextet 'eighth blackbird'. The piece is arranged for Flute (Soprano Recorder) Clarinet in B flat Percussion (Castanets Tenor Drum Pedal Bass Drum) Glockenspiel Piano Violin and Cello. It works for 2-6 players and this item includes the full score as well as the parts. Doublespeak had its debut at the Edlis Neeson Theatre in Chicago performed by the new musical six-piece 'eighth blackbird'. The piece is a slow and repetitive one punctuated by moments of stark beauty. It is according to Muhly something of a tribute to the great Philip Glass theforefather of minimalist classical music. It takes implicit inspiration from his entire oeuvre but also explicitly incorporates portions of his most famous and valued works interweaving them inside a new composition that captures what 'eighth blackbird' do best. The Doublespeak sheet music would be ideal for Chamber Ensembles looking to perform or practise minimalist music drawn from the 1960s and 1970s. If you love Philip Glass or Nico Muhly or both this composition is a real treat. This volume takes into account the most recent research and is based on the first edition printed in 1799 and subsequent reprints published during Beethoven’s lifetime. The latter are of particular importance as secondary sources as neither the autograph nor any MS copies closely related to the autograph have survived. The restrained editorial practice of these early prints served as a model for the minimum of careful editorial intervention in these volumes. The layout is distinguished by its clarity easy legibility and sensible page-turns making this edition eminently suitable for practical performance. The present volume like all Wiener Urtext editions alsocontains an informative preface filling in the historical background detailed notes on interpretation and a Critical Commentary. There exists already and abundant supply of original compositions and arrangements suitable for performance on large and comprehensive organs but many organists who have only a small instrument at their disposal in country churches often have some difficulty in finding short and easy voluntaries suitable for their own use and the instruction of their pupils. It is hoped that The Village Organist may supply this want so much felt by that valuable and zealous class of church-workers to whom the work is inscribed. The editors have endeavoured to bring together a collection of pieces which they trust will prove to be at once simple without being uninteresting and effective where the instrumental resources are limited.

The twenty-five pieces in this collection date back to eighteenth and nineteenth century Scotland. Music was passed around among professional and amateur musicians hand copied and ended up in slightly different versions in many collections. The Airs were originally songs or for solo violin. The Dances - strathspeys reels jigs a hornpipe and the sword dance - were originally for fiddle or bagpipe. The book is arranged as a program from beginning to end - from sunrise with Ossian's Hymn to the Sun to sunset with the lullaby O Can Ye Sew Cushions. And no Scottish evening is complete without Auld Lang Syne as a finale. But one can of course choose to play aselection. Three of the airs are Gaelic songs. Others are tunes for which Robert Burns and other poets wrote lyrics. Two airs were composed for the violin - Neil Gow's Lament for the Death of His Second Wife and the anonymous Killiecrankie. The dances were played by fiddlers or pipers. They played (and still play) many of the same pieces. One example is Gillie Callum the sword dance. Originally a bagpipe tune its range was expanded beyond the pipes' nine notes and it became a fiddle tune. The composers are anonymous except for pieces by Niel Gow (1727-1807) his son Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831) and William Marshall (1748-1833). Niel Gow was the preeminent violinist of his day. All three composed many fiddle tunes for Scottish country dancing. Most of the pieces are presented in sets of two and they should be played without stopping in-between as they would be performed at a country dance. Metronome markings are given as a guideline. Guitar chords are included ad libitum. Since the first violin generally has the melody the pieces can also be played by solo violin. The music of Scotland is unique. The airs have their own special beauty. The dances are fun to play with lively tempos dotted rhythms and sudden key changes. This music has long been the pleasure of country fiddlers and pipers. These new arrangements for two violins are perfect for student and teacher as well as violin colleagues. The twenty-five pieces in this collection date back to 18th and 19th century Scotland.
