The conflict in the opera is between the native Druids of Britain and the Roman soldiers who are occupying the country. A secret love unites Druidic Norma with Sever a Roman by whom she has borne two children. Sever had loved Adalgisa a Roman priestess before he knew Norma but has not seen her for some time. When he meets her one day his love for her returns and they resolve to fly together. Norma curses Sever for his treachery and is about to kill her children but finally confides them to the care of her rival. She denounces Sever and he is seized by the Druids. Thefuneral pyre is lighted and ascending it Norma dies with her lover. This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score in the original Italian text.

Didone abbandonata dates from his last compositional opus for solo piano sonatas written in 1821. The topic of Dido who was abandoned by Aeneas and expressed her grief through mourning despair and ultimately raving madness was extremely popular and subjected to countless arrangements since the 17th century in operas single “scena” and many instrumental works. The performance instructions for the sonata are as numerous as they are uncommon andsymbolize Dido’s hyper-expressiveness.

Beethoven readily complied – and it was to be his own funeral music. For in 1827 the Equali were sung in an arrangement for male choir as a “dirge for Beethoven’s funeral procession”. The original instrumental version is today a core work in the trombonist’s repertoire. Concerto d minor BWV 1043 for 2 Violins and Orchestra-The solo parts of this wonderful Double Concerto for two violins and orchestra survive in a faultless fair copy by Bach that was made around 1730. The slow movement is regarded as a melodic high point of the composer’s output. With the two solo violins on an equal footing the concerto amply deserves its position as one of Bach’s most often-played and popular works. For 2 violins with piano reduction.

Based on the verse play by Schiller about tragic love and intrigue at the court of Philip II of Spain the opera features a richassortment of memorable characters and dramatic situations. Conflicts of a political sort abound in the libretto by Mery and Du Locle; Don Carlo is in love with Elizabeth de Valois who has become the wife of his father KingPhilip II as the result of a political marriage. Furthermore the Marquis de Posa Don Carlo’s best friend is wanted by the Grand Inquisitor because he is a 'freethinker.' Philip discovers his wife's infidelity and must decidewhat to do about his son while the Grand Inquisitor asserts his power over him.
