Scottish Folk Song-This well-known Scottish folk song presents the image of a Scottish Pipe band in formal Scottish dress with their tartans kilts and all. The Bonnie Charlie mentioned in the text is of course a reference to Prince Charles Edward Stuart whose efforts to reclaim the Scottish throne ended in disaster. The 1745 rebellion was followed by a period of widespread repression of Scottish culture including music and the wearing of the kilt. SSS. Richardsong A

Scholarly critical edition with many corrections in the score and orchestral parts. Clear presentation of orchestral parts in an enlarged format 25.5 cm x 32.5 cm. “ Prélude A L’Aprés-Midi D’Un Faune ” often referred to as the first composition of the “modern” era is one of Debussy ’s most popular and frequently performed orchestral works. The piece comes down to us in an array of sources and several important ones are drawn upon for the first time in Bärenreiter’s scholarly-critical edition. Most of the currently available editions are based on the first edition from 1895 which however contains many engraver errors. When the corresponding orchestral parts are also taken into consideration countless discrepancies are revealed. Bärenreiter’s Urtext edition incorporates readings of a printed copy of the score from c. 1908 which shows corrections and emendations by the composer. These important changes found in no other source include metronome markings different pitches and additional notes as well as added tempo and articulation markings which all subtly enhance Debussy ’s finely sculpted work. There is even a breath mark added to the famous solo Flute passage which opens the work.

Depicting some of the composer's favorite legends of the Middle East Arabian Dreams is written in several sections. Beginning with imagery suggesting a fiery sunrise the piece is soft and reflective in nature. Becoming more animated it quickly progresses into the faster pace of market life before culminating in a magnificent ride on a galloping horse through a desert oasis. Soon Hee Newbold at her best!

This beautiful variant of the standard Ave Maria text has been only occasionally set to music throughout history most notably by the Renaissance composer Gesualdo. My setting is for men's chorus (with three brief solopassages to be sung by members of the choir) and one set of finger cymbals to be played by a chorister. Finger cymbals often formed part of the performance ritual of early music calling the singers and listeners to worship bysong. --Morten Lauridsen

Early Elementary Level-Description: Six Silly Geese is written in the C position with accidentals in the B section giving it a modal sound. This happy little melody uses eighth quarter and half notes. The text will help the students with the rhythm. Purpose: This piece tells a story through music. Hands play together in the A section only on repeated notes. In the B section the harmony changes to Phrygian mode with the flatting of D and E. Staccatos accents and hand crossings add interest. Students will be playing in several different octaves. Suggestions for Instruction: Tap the rhythm on knees or fallboard before playing saying or singing the words. Have the student find all the groups oftwo black notes that they will be playing. Play m. 24 in the air several times before trying to play it hands together. Other Information: There are several geese living at the pond in my neighborhood. More than once motorists have encountered them crossing the street in a single line moving very slowly. They are never in a hurry although we often are! Even a honking horn cannot make them move faster! Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo Suppe Demelli better known as Franz von Suppé (1819-1895) was the son of a Belgian father and an Austrian mother. In total he wrote some 30 operettas and Steven Verhaert selected Die schöne Galathea for his arrangement. This splendid overture is a real gem for lovers of the operetta style which is sometimes (unfairly) looked down upon.

From the Suite To Gozzi's Fairy Tale Drama-The Gozzi's Turandot - in one form or another - occupied Busoni at various times in the years 1904-1917. He was very fond of fantastical and magical tales: his immediately preceding work was the Piano Concerto Op. 39 BV247 which included music from an unfinished adaptatioon of Adam Oehlenschläger's Aladdin. In 1904 Busoni began sketching incidental music for Gozzi's Chinese fable. He also arranged a concert suite which was first performed in 1905 and published in 1906. A production of Gozzi's play with Busoni's music was mounted by Max Reinhardt in Berlin in 1911 and for the second and last time in London in 1913. This transcription of the first movement of Busoni's Turandotsuite was created for George A. Treviño and his superb Lopez High School Band of Brownsville Texas. The piece was premiered in February 2017 at the Texas Music Educators Association convention on the occasion of the Lopez band's 6A Honor Band performance.
