This work is the final piece in Jackson Hill's cycle of five settings of ancient Japanese poems concerning the changing seasons of the year. For unaccompanied divisi mixed voices the challenging work will surely hold a significant place in the body of global music appreciated by our audiences today.

Reduction for oboe and piano-A capricious lyrical and nostalgic work it is often considered to be Vaughan Williams' most successful work in this form. The first movement is pastoral in feeling. The second movement begins with a minuet light and staccato in nature with a middle section featuring a musette's characteristic long-held drone played by the oboe with the melody in the strings. The third movement is a scherzo and two trios. You won't find many better 20th Century Woodwind Concertos than this one. In fact this is the only one that Vaughan Williams ever wrote. This wonderful version is for solo Oboe with a Piano Reduction by Michael Millinar.
