Composed in the summer of 1984 Yorkshire Ballad was premiered at the Kansas Bandmasters Association Convention by Claude T. Smith and the Kansan Intercollegiate Band. Since its publication it has become one of the composer'smost popular works and has been arranged for a variety of ensembles. The composer writes I composed this little piece so that younger players would have the opportunity to play a piece that is more or less in the style of(Grainger's) Irish Tune from County Derry .

Having been considered as a 'fashionable' and 'cliché' composer of his day Hahn was best known for his contributions to the French Mélodie however his other works have never gone amiss. His Le Rossignol éperdu Poèmes for Piano represents the engaging diversity of the composer's music. Venezuelan born Reynaldo Hahn (1875-1947) entered the Paris Conservatoire at 10 years old. He received a high standard of musical education from Decombes Lavignac Dubois and Massenet before becoming a prolific and versatile composer himself writing works for all genres. For Hahn music was a magical art and his instrumental compositions often contain expressions of his otherwise hidden emotions and moods. Suitable advanced pianists the first volume of Hahn 's Le Rossignol éperdu Poèmes provides pleasant and evocative performance pieces incorporating a range of expressions rhythms and other musical features.

Piano Concerto No. 4 in C minor (concerto pour piano en ut mineur) Op. 44 by Camille Saint-Saëns is the composer's most structurally innovative piano concerto. This book features a printed performance edition of the solo part performed by pianist Frederick Ware of the East West Quantum Leap Symphony Orchestra plus a CD containing the complete performance in digital stereo; plus a second digital stereo version minus the soloist. In one sense it is like a four-movement symphony but these are grouped in pairs. That is the piece is divided into two parts each of which combines two main movements (Part 1: I. Moderatetempo Theme and Variations in C Minor; II. Slower Theme and Variations in A-flat Major; Part 2: III. Scherzo in C Minor; IV. Finale in C Major). However in each part there is a bridge-like transitional section between the two main 'movements' – for example a fugal Andante in part II functions as aninterlude between the two main sections. The concerto begins with a gently mischievous chromatic subject heard in dialogue between the strings and piano soloist and continues in a creative thematic development similar to Saint-Saëns ' Third Symphony. The composer demonstrates brilliant skill in employing the piano and orchestra almost equally. In the Andante he moves to A-flat major with a chorale-like theme in the woodwinds (also strikingly similar to the tune of the Third Symphony's final section) and uses this as a platform on which to build a series of variations before bringing the movement to a quiet close. The Allegro vivace begins again in C minor as a high-spirited scherzo using material foreshadowed in the first movement. 2/4 and 6/8 are playfully juxtaposed throughout. At one point the Piano boldly leads the orchestra in an energetic 6/8 theme in Eflat major. Eventually the orchestra moves to a lush Andante recapitulating the Andante section from the first movement. Rather suddenly the piano climbs up to a flurry of double octave trills and a climactic trumpet fanfare leads to the jubilant finale based on a hymn-like theme in triple time. Motet- Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was organist of the St Marien church in Lübeck from 1668 until his death. He wrote many works for specific secular occasions feasts and celebrations etc. and although his positon did not require him to compose vocal music he left over 120 vocal works in a wide range of scorings style and length. Almost all texts are sacred and scorings vary from a single voice with instrument to nine voices with several instruments and continuo.
