Chamber music by Bedrich Smetanas has commonly been disesteemed. The modest amount of oeuvres is deceiving though; all his life Smetana took interest on interpreting and studying the

Josef Suk ’s Piano Quartet (1874–1935) quickly became a standard work not least as a result of the extensive concerts given by the Bohemian Quartet in which Suk was second violinist. This is however the first scholarly-critical edition of this work. It is based largely on a revision of the first edition which contains Suk ’s alterations of 1914 and appeared in 1924 on the first copy as well as on newly discovered copies of the parts. Valuable information has also been extracted from printed parts of which the original copies are now no longer extant.

The six Brandenburg Concertos BWV 1046-1051 prized jewels of the world's musical heritage were written in 1721 during Bach ’s appointment in Cöthen. Of the six works Bach originally wrote earlier versions of numbers 1 and 5 which differ not only with regard to articulation but also at times different tones different rhythms instrumentation and of course form. These Urtext publications [BA 5201-BA 5206] taken from the New Bach Edition now give performers the possibility to play these earlier versions perhaps even alongside the version known today. Fanfare for Tokyo is a flamboyant and extrovert concert opener designed to celebrate the virtuosic character of the talented Tokyo Wind Symphony Orchestra. A central theme over persistent percussion is first given by bassoons and taken up by the full ensemble. Either side of this horns and euphoniums lead an acrobatic fanfare under woodwind flourishes.

Six Poems-Elliot Carter's In Sleep In Thunder was first performed at St. John's Smith Square in London on October 26th 1982 by the tenor Martyn Hill with the London Sinonietta. Elliot Carter was comissioned by the London Sinfonietta and In Sleep In Thunder was the result. It is a song cycle on the verse of Robert Lowell whom Carter had been considering setting some of his work to music. In Sleep In Thunder is made up of six songs written for tenor and fourteen instruments. This score that reflects Lowell's words of very human qualities in an ongoing but coherent change throughout produces a very evocative piece of music.

The St. John Passion was first performed in Leipzig on Good Friday of 1724. Written three years before the St. Matthew Passion it was a work Bach revised during the rest of his life in fact he did not leave us a definitive version either in print or fair copy. The sources give evidence of four different versions used at four performances - 1724 1725 around 1730 and during the last years of Bach 's life. They often contain two or more readings for the same passage or even different movements that on different occasions occupied the same place in the work. Barenreiter's edition uses the final version IV as its basis with alternativemovements and readings contained in the appendices. Albada Interludi i Dansa was written specially for the BBC's series of Spanish programmes old and new broadcast in October 1937.

Dans la première phase de l’œuvre on sent la ville vibrer de son énergie. Les rythmes sont frénétiques. L’auditeur est facilement immergé dans le chaos du trafic ; on voit des piétons absorbés par leurs tâches quotidiennes marcher prestement. Mais au cœur de chaque ville se trouve un espace préservé alliant calme et sérénité : un parc un jardin caché un petit coin oublié. L’imagination part envoyage et rêve de lointains ailleurs ; une courte pause avant de revenir à la vie chaotique de la ville. D’un point de vue musical la pièce est construite sur un seul thème qui se divise en deux ramifications distinctes et contrastantes.
