Genesys Fanfare was written for and performed by the members of the Brass and Percussion sections of the Flint Symphony Orchestra. Later the work was rescored for full orchestra and ultimately for concert band in this present arrangement. This band version was first performed in 2016 by the combined Wind Ensembles of Texas Lutheran University conducted by Beth Bronk. The musical ideas for this fanfare are straightforward - the theme is a rhythmic representation of the name of the institution that commissioned the piece - Genesys Hospital. The asymmetrical repetition of the spoken rhythm however yields a refreshingly compelling pulse which drives the music all the waythrough.

The authorship of the six poems used in this song cycle is generally attributed to Petronius Arbiter (died ca AD66) Nero's Arbiter of Elegance and author of the Satyricon a comic novel with poems interspersed in the prosenarrative. William Arrowsmith author of a translation of the Satyricon wrote that '(The Satyricon)was clearly written not to be read silently but to be read aloud by a trained artist with a voice and virtuosity capable ofregistering the enormous variety of the work.' It is these considerations which were foremost in Elias' mind whilst writing the work - that they represent a great variety of verse forms and demonstrate a wide range offlexibility and style and that above all the Latin itself was very much alive and vibrant. Therefore the tenor part is thoughout the most important aspect of the work even though the orchestra does more than merelyaccompany. Each of the songs is different from the others and there are no more direct musical links except between III and IV. The music develops throughtout the work the sixth song containing distant memories of the first.

This work was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate its 40th birthday. The first performance took place in June 1986 at St. Magnus' Cathedral Kirkwall as part of the tenth St. Magnus Festival. Writtenfor and first performed by Isaac Stern Davies's Violin Concerto brings together two streams in his music: symphonism and folk-fiddling. In its strongly developed substance it asks to be measured in the company of Beethoven Brahms and Sibelius while there is also particularly in the middle movement a strong element of the Scots lament. The orchestra is generally muted in colour though there is a dramatic role for the timpanist. There are threemovements played without a break - this is only one of many connections with the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Duration c. 30mins.

Thanks be to God is traditional in style and lends itself well to this four-part arrangement with stately chordal accompaniment. Few people know that ‘Stanley Dickson’ did not write this internationally renowned song of thanks. There was no ‘Stanley Dickson.’ It was a pseudonym one of several used by Australian composer May Brahe to allow publishers to print more of her prodigious output. The only Australian woman composer of international renown inthe first part of the 20th century May Brahe also penned Bless This House and nearly 500 others.

Elgar 's oratorio The Apostles was the biggest endeavour of his creative life. Elgar used the Bible as the source for his libretto taking words and phrases combining separate stories and superimposed different actions one upon another until the psychological emphasis of the libretto reflected its composer as faithfully as the music it was to serve. The Elgar Complete Edition brings together for the first time all of the composer's surviving music from printed and manuscript sources.

Lotus Land was undoubtedly the work for which Scott is best known. Written in 1905 Lotus Land achieved great popularity and was arranged for a vast array of instruments. It is a dreamy impressionistic piece and extremely innovative for its era. Cyril Scott was a British composer active from the very late 19th century and through the 20th whose work could be termed late Romantic with elements of impressionism with free use of exotic harmonies. Scott was an extremely prolific composer who left more than four hundred works ranging from symphonies operas and concertos to many works for smaller ensembles solo instruments and short songs.Virtuoso Violinist Fritz Kreislerwas the premier Violinist of his day and some believe the greatest Violinist of all time. In addition to his original compositions Kreisler often transcribed or arranged the work of other composers.
