t the beginning of the 1980s Alison Moyet was discovered by Vince Clarke who - in search of greater independence - had left the successful band Depeche Mode. The soulful singing style of Moyet and the electronic innovative pop that Clarke made melded well together in the group Yazoo with hits such as Only You and Don’t Go. However after a number of years Moyet went her own way and forged a solo career during which she demonstrated a somewhat more traditional sound. She recorded several covers (such as The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and That Ole Devil Called Love) but she also wrotefine songs herself such as Love Resurrection and of course the expressive song AllCried Out. This arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars does justice to the atmosphere of the original song.

Two Sonatas In G and C is a beautiful collection of pieces for Cello with Piano Accompaniment composed by Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739). The solo cello part is also included on a separate insert.

In May 2005 the Leipzig-based musicologist Michael Maul made a sensational discovery in Weimar. While sifting through the Herzogin Anna Amalia library he unearthed the manuscript of a sacred aria by Johann Sebastian Bach which was previously completely unknown. It is the first time since 1935 that a new Bach Vocal work has been discovered. The aria consisting of twelve verses is written for solo Soprano Strings and Basso Continuo and opens with the words “ Alles Mit Gott Und Nichts Ohn’ ihn ”. It was composed in 1713 to celebrate the 53rd birthday of DukeWilhelm Ernst of Saxe-Weimar who employed Bach as court organist from 1708 until 1717. This Vocal work is Bach ’s sole contribution to the genre of strophic aria. Each verse is accompanied by basso continuo and followed by a lively string ritornello making this work a pièce d’occasion of exquisite quality. Alfred Mistowski was a pianist Violinist violist and composer who as a former student of Trinity College of Music in London became after studying at Oxford a professor at Trinity who appears to have been a champion of theTrinity Examination system. Mistowski composed many dramatic cantatas String quartets symphonies and concertos as well as a series of pieces to prepare Violin students for their exams. He travelled the world as a Trinityexaminer covering India South Africa Tasmania New Zealand Singapore and the Straits Islands. In addition he was music tutor to the Maharaja of Mysore and conductor of the Mysore Palace Orchestra. Perhaps his many seajourneys inspired this sprightly Hornpipe for Violin and Piano a perennial of the Trinity exam list.

These delightful little classical sonatas - almost sonatinas - appeared in Lefevre's Methode de Clarinette (1802). They are technically undemanding but they are winning in their unaffected lyric charm. Five sonatas originally written in 1802 by Lefevre for his Method De Clarinette a tutorial method that was adopted by the Paris Conservatoire as the standard tutor for the clarinet for many years. Cyril Scott was an English composer writer and poet. He was essentially a late romantic composer whose style was at the same time strongly influenced by impressionism. His harmony was notably exotic. Scott wrote around four hundred works which include two mature symphonies three operas three Piano concertos concertos for Violin Cello Oboe and Harpsichord several overtures four oratorios as well as a mass of chamber music. Scott is undoubtedly best known for the solo Piano piece Lotus Land which is transcribed here for two Pianos. LotusLand seems impossibly modern for 1905 and additionally possesses a preternatural sense of jazziness. It has been recorded over fifty times both in its original form for Piano and in a wide variety of arrangements from vocals to jazz groups and from Brass bands to Synthesizer. Later Scott also wrote a poem with the same name.

Richard Charles Rodgers was one of Americas best-known musicaltheatre composers. In his lifetime Rodgers wrote hundreds of songsand no less than forty Broadway musicals including The Sound of Music Oklahoma South Pacific and Carousel many of which are still loved and regularly performed today. In this wonderful collection Peter Kleine Schaars used the songs It Might As Well Be Spring from State Fair My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music and The Lady Is a Tramp from Babes in Arms.
