En 2007 Philip Sparke est nommé compositeur en résidence à l’établissement scolaire de Monmouth (Monmouth School) bourgade historique sur la frontière Angleterre/Pays de Galles. L’école puise dans un passé prestigieux qui remonte à 1614. Elle dispose d’un département de musique particulièrement actif qui peut s’enorgueillir de posséder deux Orchestres d’Harmonie en collaboration avec l’école des filles Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls et un Brass Band.Cette résidence passionnante et innovante a donné lieu à trois rencontres (entre le compositeurs et élèves) et à trois commandes d’œuvres une pour chaque formation. La création des œuvres a eu lieu dans lecadre du concert de fin d’année. Almshouse Street Blues est la pièce que Philip Sparke a composée pour le Brass Band dont les membres ont eux-mêmes choisi le style. L’établissement scolaire de Monmouth est situé dans Almshouse Street (Rue Almshouse). La ville de Monmouth accueille chaque année un festival d’été dynamique et créatif qui rassemble entre autres des groupes de blues mais propose également un large éventail de styles musicaux tels que le jazz la soul le rock et le bhangra.

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication of theBeethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Symphony No.3-The Pastoral Symphony premiered on January 26 1922 and somewhat puzzled audiences with its rejection of the established classical themes in favour of a more folk based work. Nevertheless it continues to rise in popularity and is firmly settled amongst Vaughan Williams greatest works. This is the Study Score for Full Orchestra and Solo Soprano or Tenor.

La « fleur de la chevalerie française » pourtant en surnombre fut anéantie par les archers du roi Henry V d'Angleterre. Henry V naquit au château de Monmouth en 1387. Les habitants de la ville de Monmouth continuent de commémorer cette victoire décisive en se rassemblant dans la célèbre rue d’Azincourt (Agincourt Street) et sur la Place d’Azincourt (Agincourt Square) situés non loin de l’établissement scolaire de Monmouth (Monmouth School).

Contest March-This fantastic contest march was composed for the Alexander Brass Band from Stavanger Norway who wanted a brand new march to play when they took part in the world-renowned Whit Friday March Contest. In the march Philip Sparke has followed the traditional brass band contest march format and it is named as a tribute to Alexander the Great rather than the Alexander brass band who were actually named after their local pub!

In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). BWV 1053 is the second piece in the autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach prepared in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. Bach P 234). It was probably transcribed from a concerto for a solo woodwind instrument although opinions differ on the original key and instrument. Bach had alreadyreworked the original concerto in two church cantatas in the autumn of 1726 (BWV 49 and BWV 169) at which time he assigned the solo part to the organ. Perhaps the original concerto is not much older than these cantatas for the siciliano slow movement is closely related in expression to many numbers from his great Passion settings. Allegro in B-flat major of a Quintet for Clarinet two Violins Viola and Violoncello K.Anh.91 (516c). This Allegro fragment was possibly sketched in 1787 two years before composition of the A major Clarinet Quintet K.581. It is 93 bars long and is complete in all instrumental parts but was abandoned abruptly at the bottom of the fourth page. The distinguished Mozart scholar Robert Levin has completed the sketch with the sole purpose of bringing this extraordinary work into the concert hall to add to the small but choice number of those Mozart works which have always been the most treasured of every clarinettist's repertoire.
