Another World's Hell was commissioned in versions for brass wind and fanfare bands by the Société Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises and the Association Cantonale des Musiques Neuchâteloises for the 2013 Swiss Cantonales festivals. It is inspired by a passage in Aldous Huxley's classic 1932 science-fiction novel Brave New World which describes in unusually close detail the music that is being played at a dance. This is Dobson's interpretation of the imagined future music' that Huxley dreamed of. Brass Band Grade 5 Duration: 13 minutes

A flashback is an interesting psychological phenomenon: a seemingly random trigger can bring back long-forgotten memories from the subconscious mind. The composer underwent a similar experience before writing this piece. He was asked to write a piece for The National Youth Fanfare Band in the Netherlands one which he heard perform many years ago. All of a sudden he remembered Deep Harmony a piece frequently programmed back then. He used his own flashback-experience as an inspiration to weave an old English hymn into his new composition much like a musical flashback. The right idea at the right moment as this piece will prove!

Of all his early chamber works the 'Nocturne' is most clearly by the mature Vaughan Williams almost anticipating the influence of Ravel which followed his lessons from the French composer in 1908. In the veiled beauty of its highly chromatic harmonies we hear already the tone-poet of the slow movement of 'A London Symphony' while in the fleet-footed 'Scherzo' there is already a French influence in the way the folk-song is subtly woven into the texture only brief snatches of the tune being heard until the penultimate page when it receives fuller treatment. The work plays for about 10 minutes. The 1904 'Scherzo' is a vigorous march with fugal episodes which lasts some 6minutes and may effectively be performed by itself.

From Balletti a cinque voci-During the second half of the 16th century Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi composed almost entirely sacred works however it was with his Balletti not published until 1591 and 1594 that he gained fame and recognition. The homophonic structure and simple melodies conveyed a charming sense of naivety that became so popular during this period. Robert van Beringen has arranged Amor Vittorioso La Sirena L’Innamorato and L’ardito with five part flexible instrumentation.
