Anniversary Overture was commissioned in 1968 as a twenty-first birthday piece for Hong Kong Philharmonic Society and is a four-minute firework display for orchestra. Within the framework of a two-four Allegro giubiloso Arnold alternates two major themes one breezy the other tender developing them extensively and landing resoundingly in F major. This new transcription brings an exuberant work to the field of symphonic wind band for the first time.

He jokingly told his fellow band members that one day he would write a piece to celebrate this mouth watering experience. The result was this Hot and Spicy piece garnished with a light mambo rhythm!

Moto Perpetuo is a single movement work for solo Violin with Piano accompaniment. It was written by the British composer Edward German and first published in 1890 while he was musical director of the Globe Theatre in London. Edward German was an English musician and composer of Welsh descent best remembered for his extensive output of incidental music for the stage and as a successor to Arthur Sullivan in the field of English comic opera. While French influences are clearly apparent in his music German was said to be a ‘stylistic cosmopolitan who wrote music that is quintessentially English’ (David Russell Hulme).

Nicola Vaccai was born in Tolentino Italy on March 15th 1790; he died on August 5th or 6th 1848 in Pesaro (located on the Adriatic) the town in which he had grown up and to which he retired in 1844. He was successful as a singing teacher and opera composer though he was eclipsed in the latter field by his rival Bellini. He is known today primarily as the author of the present vocal method.
