A collection of six fabulous songs for Cello and Piano by Romantic composer Johannes Brahms. Although these are arrangements they were first published in 1896 by Simrock Brahm's publisher while the composer was still alive and so Brahms must have known of and accepted the arrangements. The notation of the old Simrock edition has been assimilated with that of the original vocal version especially with regard to the dynamics. Some of the cello's closing passages have been rendered more effective and fingering and phrasing have been modernised both technically and stylistically.

Her er så en lille buket af dem som begynder med snefnuggenes sidste dans og slutter med den lyse nat hvor drøm og virkelighed mødes i øjeblikke vi får trang til at kalde evige. Først kommer ordene – og så er foråretssanseindtryk blevet til digte. Dernæst kommer tonerne – og så er forårsdigtene blevet til sange! Og på den måde kan vi i et fællesskab – om det er et sangkor eller ”blot” en flok sangglade mennesker – opleve forårets fortællinger. Og hvis ord og toner går op i en højere enhed og så at sige trækker på samme hammel – ja så kan vel både forfatter og komponist føle at arbejdet er fuldført. Og ligeledes brugerne håber vi! Den sidste i buketten (+ 1) er ikke nogen egentlig forårssang men en kærlig familiær hilsen til den egn hvor de øvrige er blevet til. French composer and teacher Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded the Ballet Le Train Bleu being no exception. Milhaud 's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality as exemplified in Le Train Bleu. Composed in 1924 Le Train Bleu is a Ballet based on a scenario by Jean Cocteau and composed for the Ballets Russes. The title is taken from a night train called The Blue Train which transported wealth passengers from Calais to the Mediterranean Sea. In hisreduction for Piano Milhaud makes use of variation in articulation complex rhythms chromaticism accidentals harmonics altering tempos variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura amongst other aspects. Milhaud 's Le Train Bleu is essential to all advanced pianists seeking modern and exciting repertoire.
