From his experience as a conductor and adjudicator Bert Appermont knows that bands often experience the same problems: lack of sound control intonation difficulties uncontrolled articulation and insufficient phrasing. Practising these aspects is very demanding and there is little material available that is also enjoyable to play. Four Original Warm-Ups consists of four fun warm-up pieces. Each piece focuses on one of the problems without the music being dull. The four pieces work equally well when played together or as individual items either at rehearsals or in a concert.

The Emmylou Harris version of Pat Ballard's Mr Sandman was an international hit. In this arrangement Klaas van der Woude shows this song is also perfectly suited for three instrumental soloists (saxophones) with brass band accompaniment. The special close harmony effect is obtained by a tight three-part arrangement of the melody. Effective use of percussion particularly the vibraphone gives this version the same feel as the original.

Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) was a French composer conductor and organist. Despite being predominantly remembered as a conductor his Canzonetta arranged for Flute and Piano by André Petiot remains a recognised piece in the repertoire. Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire before taking up the position of chief conductor for the concert series Concerts Colonne in 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 and during this time he notably conducted the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's 'The Firebird'. Pierné composed for a variety of instruments. Canzonetta originally composer for Clarinet with Piano accompaniment is one of four solo works by the composer. This Pierné piece arranged for Flute contains many characteristics typical of the French style such as lyrical melodies a significant number of performance directions flourishes of semiquavers chromaticism and many changes in dynamics. Canzonetta is a varied piece essential to the repertoire of aspiring flautists.
