Alexandre Lagoya once said: For one Guitar you can write what the Guitar will allow you to write. For two Guitars you can write what you choose. While there is a measure of overstatement in this it remains true that the medium of two Guitars allows much greater creative freedom to the composer. There are many kinds of Guitar-duo works- at one extreme the very simple at the other the call for two virtuosi; those in this book inhabit the middle of this spectrum. They are not in effect accompanied Guitar solos but equal duets in which two players of moderate technical ability converse with one another sharing the lead. This they do without sacrificing musical interest. Two ofthe pieces consist of variations on folk tunes - Shades of Green uses the Irish tune The Next Market Day while Varieties of Scotch is based on the well known Scottish tune Ye Banks and Braes . The remaining duet is an affectionate nod in the ragtime direction of Scott Joplin. The two sets of variations are suitable for concert use and Joblinesque is a natural encore piece. Remarkably for a work by Philip Glass the Cello Concerto No 1 or Concerto For Cello And Orchestra conforms broadly to the three-movement form of classic concerti with fast-slow-fast tempi. This concerto is designated as part ofThe Concerto Project recording series started by Glass in the year 2000 currently in four volumes and including eight concerti.American composer Philip Glass is widely known as one of the most celebrated influential and prolificof the modern composers. DAA is a beautiful tuning for the mountain dulcimer. This book contains 19 arrangements of traditional Irish Welsh French Canadian Scottish and American folk tunes and songs that are rich within their melodies complemented by the DAA tuning. Although the DAA tuning results in predominantly linear movement of the fingers along the frets with jumps and runs along the melody or middle string the richness of the DAA tuning more than compensates for extra finger movement. These arrangements are written in notation and tablature for the three-string dulcimer with chord symbols with a mix of strumming and fingerpick/flatpick arrangements. Lyrics are included where appropriate.Beginning level of difficulty. Includes access to an online play-along audio recording that features all of the tunes in the same order as the book played by the author. Each tune name is announced and spoken countoffs and cues for repeats and are also provided. The recording will help make the unique style of the dulcimer clear.
