Rare is the drummer who is both influwntial and essential to a genre but Billy Cobham is just that in regards to jazz and consequently to music in general. He's performed with Miles Davis - displaying his ambidextrous drumming on classic recordings. This play-along package features selections from Spectrum where the individual instrument tracks are remixed so that the musician/student can play along in essence filling in for any key member of the London Jazz Orchestra with whom this project was recorded. The experience is one that Cobham describes as 'accessible yet challenging'.

This song is of course one of the most famous ballads of all time. The pure simplicity of the melody is precisely what makes this number so unforgettable. Ben Haemhouts has made an arrangement that can be played by every orchestra and every soloist and by different instruments. The arranger also played this gem himself on the I've Got the Music CD with the band that he played with for 10 years.

for Oboe and Concert Band-Composer Philip Sparke decided to use the idea of white to write a piece that was both bright and light in terms of harmony colour and orchestration. He achieves this by using simple major and minor chords and emphasising the pure transparent timbres of the upper woodwinds of the band. He was also keen to capture the essence and history of the oboe as a solo instrument. A perfect way to put your oboist in the spotlight.

Tiefe Stimme / Low Voice-Continuing the new Urtext edition of Schubert’s Lieder editor Walther Dürr now presents Volume 6 for Low Voice . While volumes 1 to 4 of this series contain mostly Lieder that Schubert had published during his lifetime volume 5ff. contain the remaining songs which are presented basically chronologically in the order of their Deutsch catalogue number. The Lieder in this sixth volume were composed during the period between autumn 1814 and spring 1815. With “Nachtgesang” (D 119) and “Trost in Tränen” (D120) Schubert turns to the“Strophenlied” in its stricter sense for the first time. He develops an interest in this form parallel to his first involvement with Geothe. Schubert during this period an assistant teacher at his father’s school orientated himself towards the so-called “Berliner Liederschule” particularly the songs of Johann Friedrich Reichardt. By the beginning of the year 1815 he drew his inspiration mainly from the texts of Theodor Körner; however he regularly still produced settings for the poetry of Goethe and Schiller. - Based on the Urtext of the “New Schubert Edition” - Newly engraved clearly presented musical layout - Foreword by Walther Dürr on the history and genesis of the work as well as an explanation of the sources for each individual lied (Eng/Ger) - Includes English translations of lieder texts by Richard Wigmore
