Jan Van der Roost originally composed each and every note of ‘Slavia’ (as in case in ‘Puszta’ ‘Rikudim’ and ‘A Highland Rhapsody’). Consequently ‘Slavia’ does not contain any arrangement of existing tunes but is an original composition ‘in the style of…’. The introduction has an ABA structure and exposes a broad melodic line. Following a short cadenza there is a second movement in a fast and fiery tempo. The tempi increase gradually culminating in an exciting final climax making this ‘Slavonic Rhapsody’ a spell-binding experience to the very last note.

Louis Vierne (1870-1937) was a student of César Franck and got nominated in 1900 as titular organist at Notre-Dame (Paris). Numerous concert-tours through Europe and the US made him famous all over the world.

Antonio Caldara (1670–1736) is primarily known for his numerous oratorios and operas which brought him great popularity during his lifetime. Besides these large-scale compositions Caldara also wrote smaller Vocal works of which his “ Stabat Mater ” is the best known. This publication is based on Eusebius Mandyczewski’s edition of the “ Stabat Mater ” which has until now been the definitive edition. The notation and key signatures havebeen adapted to today’s standards. Piano and wind ensemble

Mozart composed the majority of his works for solo string instruments and orchestra during the years 1773 to 1779. Especially important in this context are the years 1773 and 1775 which witnessed the creation of the five concertos for Violin and orchestra as well as several single movements for the same scoring. The reasons for this flourish of activity in this domain lie partly in the fact that Mozart who still occupied the post of concertmaster to the Prince-Archbishop was either obliged or inspired to provide such works for special occasions during this long period spent in Salzburg. But another reason was certainly the possibility ofexperimenting with all the new compositional techniques acquired during his third trip to Italy and his stay of several months in Vienna from July to September 1773.
