Six Pieces by Fritz Kreisler Transcribed for Alto Saxophone and Piano-Fritz Kreisler (1875–1962) was celebrated as one of the greatest violinists of all time. His brilliant technique and rich tone produced a characteristic sound that was and remains immediately identifiable. This collection features six pieces that Kreisler composed or transcribed for violin and piano here transcribed for alto saxophone and piano. Especially well known are the original pieces Liebesleid and Schon Rosmarin both of which Kreisler attributed to the now-forgotten composer Joseph Lanner. Caprice Viennois and Rondino on a Theme of Beethoven are likewise original pieces from early in Kreisler’s career which he would regularly feature as concert encores. The Old Refrainand Midnight Bells are transcriptions the former of a Viennese popular song and the latter of an excerpt from the operetta Der Opernball by Richard Heuberger. In these six transcriptions the instrument changes yet the value remains. Fritz Kreisler (1875–1962) was celebrated as one of the greatest violinists of all time. Tell Martha Not to Mourn-Now Available for SATB choirs. This setting of a popular African American spiritual uses the traditional text while the harmonic melodic and rhythmic elements are in more of a gospel style. Full Score-This exquisite ‘fragment of a Japonisme’ – premiered in 2017 and conceived as a kind of double concerto for soprano flute and ensemble of 23 players – proved to be Oliver Knussen’s final work. The 8-minute piece couches seven exquisite haiku settings in richly evocative music which incorporates signals from Japanese theatre (particularly Kabuki). It concerns the Hototogisu (or Lesser Cuckoo) a bird widely invoked in Japanese haiku poetry of the 17th-19th centuries where the poet listens for its arrival from the mountains both as a harbinger of summer and a voice from the land of the dead. O Hototogisu! is presented here as a typeset score with two facsimile pages fromthe composer’s manuscript.
