John Buller was born in London in 1927. He enjoyed a musical childhood but it was not until this thirties after a career as an architectural surveyor that his began to concentrate on his musical career. In 1975 he became Composer-in-Residence at the University of Edinburgh as holder of the visiting Forman Fellowship. In 1978 he was awarded an Arts Council Bursary and in 1985-6 he was Composer-in-Residence at Queens University Belfast. He died in 2004.

God Will Take Care Of Us All was written in honour of Flora MacKillop mother of St Mary of The Cross MacKillop. 2016 is the 200th Anniversary of Flora's birth. Those who knew Mrs. Flora MacKillop well speak of her as a sweet amiable good-natured creature charitable in thought word and deed intensely devoted to her religion and withal a truly lovable woman who ruled her life by the strictest principles of virtue self sacrifice and integrity. Flora MacKillop was killed in a ship wreck south of Eden NSW in 1886. Mary MacKillop wrote hundreds of letters all of which give great insight into the life of this extraordinary Australianwoman. Among these letters now kept at the archives of the Sisters of St Joseph in North Sydney are many written between mother and daughter. Born in Melbourne on 15 January 1842 Mary was the first-born child of Flora MacDonald and Alexander MacKillop both recent arrivals from Scotland. On many occasions Mary pointed out to her mother the formative influence she had been in her life. Mary had learnt from her grandparents and parents that “God will take care of us all”. This deep trust in God’s loving care was foundational in the faith life of the whole family.

The composer writes: The structure is a short set of double variations the two themes following a short introduction. One is flamboyant and rhetorical the other gentle and lyrical. The first develops rhythmically through a toccata to a vigorous dance the second becomes increasingly decorated so that the line is almost dissolved but finally emerges in its clearest simplest form. In a coda each musical character disappears into silence.

Many small choirs extensively use two-part mixed voicings. Here composer Tim Bushong sets his own text for two part mixed choir with piano suitable for All Saints Day or for general use.

Worry Beads is an atmospheric and flowing piece for solo guitar. After a slow introductory passage it launches into virtuosic semiquavers which continue throughout much of the piece with fluctuating time signatures bringing rhythmic flavour.
