Frédéric Devreese is one of the most renowned composers in Belgium�s rich musical tapestry. As a tribute Beriato Music is making a CD box containing his most important orchestral pieces that have been adapted for wind bands. �Passage� is one of his most notable pieces from this collection. The unstoppable bass melody the effervescent phrasing and the continuous rhythms make this powerful piece a real experience!Here the french word passage refers to passage-work defined by the dictionary Le Grand Larousse as a rapid sequence of notes improvised or written within a musical phrase deigned to embellish the melody or stimulate the performer�svirtuosity.Passage proposes a theme followed by variations the final being the last variation. Rhythm virtuosity and mixtures of tone colours play an important part and ostinato tempi are used throughout.

Davies's feeling for the potency and bravura of the clarinet goes back to works of the 1960s; his concerto for the instrument is predictably a big ranging piece in two linked movements. The first fast with a brief slowintroduction has the soloist in propulsive melodic flights slipping over into florid runs but it is a virtuoso piece for the orchestra especially for the marimba and pair of horns. The Adagio that follows is in the spare cold birdcall-riven style of other recent Davies slow movements exploiting first the clarinet's low register and then at its climax the instrument's high extremes. A cadenza leads to the coda where Davies introduces a Scots tune previously hinted at with which he brings the work to an end in F sharp major. Miniature score.

Dramma per musica in thre acts- Tamerlano HWV 18; Dramma per musica in 3 acts Handel began the composition of Tamerlano one of the supreme masterpieces of Baroque opera seria on 3rd July 1724. The libretto was an adaptation by Nicola Haym of Agostino Piovene's Tamerlano Tragedia per musica which had been set to music by Francesco Gasparini and performed in Venice in 1711. When Handel dated the last page of the autograph on 4rd July the work appeared to be complete; but during the three months which passed before the premiere at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket on 31 October so many alterations and revisions were made that a fresh performing-score had to be writtern very late inthe proceedings to replace an earlier one which is now 1ost. There were twelve performances between 31 October 1724 and 8 May 1725. Handel revived the opera only once in 1731 for three performances. For this revival he marked in the performing score a number of cuts in the recitatives which are reproduced in the present edition; there is more recitative in Tamerlano than in any other Handel opera. Although Charpentier set the Te Deum altogether four times this is his only setting employing a military band i.e. trumpets and kettledrums. This brilliant and magnificent piece was frequently played at victory celebrations and other occasions of public jubilation during the 17th century. Even today it is still ideal for festive church services and concerts. Cantata for the Second Day of Christmas- Telemann composed “ Gelobet Seist Du Jesu Christ ” (TvWV 1:612) for his cantata cycle of 1710–11. Although scored without Brass Instruments or Timpani the brilliant festive mood of the second day of Christmas prevails. The opening chorale and the final chorus form a frame for the four solo arias of the main section (ATB). Here too the choral numbers may be and usually are taken one to a part. A Man's Destiny'-‘Yn Ieren en Sinen’ (‘with much conviction’) was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (Friesland The Netherlands) to mark their 95th anniversary. As requested by the commissioning party the composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band who played flugelhorn until the age of 86. Music was very important in the eventful life of the man in question. A passionate musician he had a great love for chorale melodies and his favourite piece the famous Canon by the English composer Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) was the source of inspiration for this composition.
