Composer John Ireland had a particular love for the Sussex Downs where he lived much of his life in a converted windmill. The Downland Suite reflects his appreciation of that landscape and is among the most loved of his manyworks. Originally composed for Brass Band in four movements the two favourite elements of the Downland Suite are here extracted and arranged for Piano. The Elegy and Menuet has also been arranged for String Orchestra and isplayed frequently. The Elegy is reminiscent of Elgar and has an ineffable Englishness about it. The Menuet has been described as ‘bucolic’. Both are within the reach of intermediate pianists in this arrangement.

for SATB and percussion This Sephardic wedding song with rhythmic variety and lively melody calls to mind gypsies and the Romantic Moorish flavour of Spain. It has a folk-like feel with drums percussion and hand-clapping adding to the flamenco flavour. The first line translates as 'Oh the bridegroom wants no money'. This piece is a polite adaptation by famed Scottish poet Robert Burns of a traditional bawdy song of the same name. This more charming version presents a poignant and emotive consideration of human relationships and aging. Arranged sensitively for a cappella mixed voices by Michael Weber of North Dakota State University one feels the lament and the Scottish countryside. Medium in difficulty for high school community and college choirs.

El Condor Pasa (If I Could) featured on Simon & Garfunkel's 1970 album Bridge Over Trouble Water is based on a traditional Andean folk tune. Paul Simon chose to cover the track after hearing a version of it performed by Jorge Milchberg’s band Urubama. Originally written by Peruvian composer Daniel Alomia Roble Simon personalised the song by adding his own English lyrics. On the Simon & Garfunkel version Robles Milchberg and Simon are all listed in the songwriting credits. This arrangement for SATB choir with piano and optional flute accompaniment is an intriguing piece that draws upon the track’s Andean heritage forhauntingly beautiful harmonies.
