as performed by J. Geils Band-A ‘centerfold’ is a large photo that can be removed from the middle pages of a magazine. With their 1981 song Centerfold which gave them a huge hit the J. Geils band sang about an old flame who suddenly turns up on such a poster in a men’s’ magazine. Have a listen - you’re sure to know it!

Trompeten-Ouvertüre- The Overture in C major the so-called Trumpet Overture with its brass fanfare was composed in 1826 and a second version with considerable revisions was made in 1833 for performances in Dusseldorf and London. The Overture in C major was first published posthumously in 1867. Christopher Hogwood's Urtext edition takes into account both Mendelssohn's autograph now held in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris which has two endings as well as the London manuscript copy made for the performance there in 1834; this manuscript contains three separate trombone parts in Mendelssohn's hand. The newBärenreiter edition presents the work as found in Mendelssohn's autograph for the first time. Bertrand Moren originally composed this march for the brass band Concordia of Bagnes in Switzerland of which he is the conductor. Festive develops a sparkling and playful melodic line over a strong theme in the low brass section. This version for concert band is full of vitality and will bring a touch of liveliness to any concert. Festive is also suitable for an outdoor performance.

Dies Infernus means 'Day of Hell'. The reason for this title is the dreadful disaster that befell the Dutch village of Kolhorn in 1788 when the whole village went up in flames. Afterwards a huge appeal was launched to rebuild the unfortunate village. Many people were willing to contribute resulting in the collection of the enormous sum at the time of eighteen thousand guilders with which the village could be rebuilt. This work was commissioned by Harmonie De Eendracht in Kolhorn to mark its 110th Anniversary.

In recent years the trumpet has taken on a special role and importance for me both in chamber music and in orchestral works or in a double concerto for two trumpets. It was time to create a solo piece for this instrument. The music is very introspective in places almoston the edge of tonelessness and lapsing into silence a shrill (out)cry picks out the theme of the loss of a loved family member.'

Leos Janacek almost seventy years old characterised the wind sextet he had just finished as 'a kind of memory of youth' in a letter to Kamila Stösslová. The suite Youth was written in the summer of 1924 prompted by the composer's need to take stock on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Janacek also heard the Parisian ensemble Societe moderne des instruments a vent several times in Salzburg and Brno. He expanded the classic quintet scoring by the addition of a bass clarinet. Janacek referred to an earlier part of his life in this work not only by quoting a theme from March of the Blue Boys but particularly through his general freshness ofexpression astute humour and use of form which adhered to the classical style. The piece was enthusiastically received by both critics and the public and appeared in print as early as 1925 issued by the Prague publisher Hudebni matice. One Hand One Heart is a duet from the hit musical West Side Story . It is sung by the two main protagonists Maria and Tony as they dream about their wedding and their life together. It is a bittersweet song as it marks the sole moment of happiness for the couple before reality returns and fear and violence are restored. West Side Story is possibly the most famous musical ever. Inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet it is set in 1950s New York City and chronicles the life love and losses of two rival gangs. Written in 1957 with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by StephenSondheim the original setting was highly topical as gang violence was rife at the time but it is often seen as a metaphor for many areas of conflict - one of the reasons the production has remained popular to this day.

We know that Mozart held his Vespers in high regard since he once asked his father in a letter dated 12 March 1783 to send the two works to him in Vienna so that he could show them to Baron Gottfried van Swieten. The Office hymns designated as Vesperae de Dominica K. 321 and Vesperae solennes de Confessore K. 339 both call for four vocal parts two violins two clarini kettledrums basses (violoncello double bass and bassoon) three trombones and organ. They contain settings of Psalms 109 (Dixit) 110 (Confitebor) 111 (Beatus vir) 112 (Laudate pueri) 116 (Laudate Dominum) and of the Magnificat canticle. Each of the Psalms forms an autonomous unit; the Doxology atthe end is derived from the themes of the various Psalms.
