Premiered in October 2018 by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra principal tubist David Saltzman as soloist the Concerto features three movements with a cadenza between the second and third. Adler likens the solo passages in the first movement and cadenza to a singing cantor an obvious homage to his own father's work in that role. Listen as Toledo Symphony Lab discusses the Concerto with Adler and tubist David Saltzman before the premiere. A perusal score is available at our Issuu library.Premiered in October 2018 by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra principal tubist David Saltzman as soloist the Concerto features three movements with a cadenza between the second and third. When Stacy Garrop first heard the Appalachian folk song Silver Dagger at a folk festival the simplicity of the melody and its cautionary love tale enthralled her leading to several years researching the song. She discovered dozens of variants of the song’s text melody and title. Garrop’s trio is inspired by two versions of the folk song as well as motives from a third version — her exquisite setting of the folk tunes creates a fascinating 5-minute work. Silver Dagger is also available for Clarinet Cello and Piano (114-41798) and for Violin Cello and Piano (114-41406).When Stacy Garrop first heard the Appalachian folk song Silver Dagger at a folk festival the simplicity of the melody and its cautionary love tale enthralled her leading to several years researching the song. From the first notes of the piano you know you are in for a fun time. This is a gospel-rock setting of the great carol that won't stand still as will anyone else. An ad lib break brings even more joy to the piece that choirs will love. The ending is everything you hoped for. From the first notes of the piano you know you are in for a fun time. This famous Mendelssohn choral piece has been carefully edited by Michelle Jenson and includes an excellent new translation by Joyce Warman. Mendelssohn's choral writing is truly classic. Based on Psalm 78 it works as a church motet for an advanced ensemble but is most often performed as a concert piece. The title says it all: Acension. It is the fulfilling of scripture when Jesus ascends to be on the right of the throne of God. The a cappella music is powerful and majestic moving to a triumphant ending. The title says it all: Acension. A serious clarinetist probably plays at some point in their career the famous Debussy Rhapsodie. More often than not they will play with the piano accompaniment as Debussy first wrote it. The fortunate few will perform with an orchestra. Drapkin now makes the Rhapsodie accessible for a soloist with string quartet. The solo line is faithful to the original while the strings handle the accompaniment. A serious clarinetist probably plays at some point in their career the famous Debussy Rhapsodie. Sing my Child sets a joyful text celebrating the beauty found all around us in everyday life. Characterized by tight harmonies and a dynamic percussion line the buoyant 7/8 metre of the opening drives the piece forward.
