After Schubert’s death in 1828 his brother Ferdinand passed on thirteen songs based on texts by Ludwig Rellstab and Heinrich Heine to the publisher Haslinger. Schubert had only composed them shortly before his death in August 1828. During his lifetime Schubert actually wanted to publish the two groups of Lieder separately. However the Heine and Rellstab songs are indeed closely related. Haslinger added a fourteenth Lied “Die Taubenpost” based on a text by Johann Gabriel Seidl which Schubert had composed at the same time as “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” (D 965) one month before his death but which in no way bears any relation to the Rellstab and Heine Lieder. Thiscollection was published posthumously by Haslinger early in May 1829 and it was named Schwanengesang – traditionally the term given to an artist’s last work before his death. This collection is here presented in an authoritative Barenreiter Urtext Edition for High Voice. Based on the Urtext of the “New Schubert Edition” Foreword by Walther Dürr about the genesis and history of the works and the available sources for each individual Lied (Ger/Eng) English translations of the Lied texts by Richard Wigmore

In common conversation the term ?bathetic? (pathétique in French) means a grossly sentimental pathos or exaggerated sympathy. True pathos however is really showing your feelings ? crying when you need to cry having courage when needed showing commitment when required. Pathétique reflects all these feelings in a stately and dignified manor. A truly emotional major concert work.

Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven 's Nine Symphonies edited by the first class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a huge undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven 's Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony (No.9) which came down to the publisher in nearly 20 different sources. So it was not surprising that Bärenreiter's new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world. Since publication Del Mar's edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors performers and critics alike and has become the most widely used publication ofthe Beethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner David Zinman Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado. Full scores study scores and complete performance material to Beethoven ’s Nine Symphonies are available for sale.

Five States of Change was commissioned by Kunstfactor for the 4th section of the Dutch National Brass Band Championships (NBK) 2011. It is dedicated to Jappie Dijkstra and the Music Information Centre (MUI) Arnhem Holland in acknowledgement of their outstanding work in developing band repertoire. The composer writes: The idea for the piece came when I was reading an article about a branch of Chinese philosophy which is abbreviated as Wu Xing* which has no exact translation but can mean for example five elements five phases or five states of change . It is central to all elements of Chinese thought including science philosophy medicine andastrology and in simple terms tries to create various cyclic relationships between five elements in all walks of life.An example is: Earth - Metal - Water - Wood - Fire - (Earth) etc. where (in one cycle) earth bears metal metal changes to liquid (water) when heated water helps trees grow wood burns to create fire fire produces ash (earth) and the cycle continues.I was particularly interested in the cycle of emotions:- Meditation - Sorrow - Fear - Anger - Joy - (Meditation) etc. and thought this cyclic principle would provide an effective emotional journey for a piece of music. So Five States of Change has five equal sections which loosely characterise this emotional cycle. I have tried to make the music grow organically with minimal repetition and each movement evolves from the musical elements at the end of the previous one with the opening material appearing transformed at the end of the piece to complete the cycle. *in full Wu zhong liu xing zhi chi or the five types of chi dominating at different times

In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). BWV 1053 is the second piece in the autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach prepared in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. ms. Bach P 234). It was probably transcribed from a concerto for a solo woodwind instrument although opinions differ on the original key and instrument. Bach had alreadyreworked the original concerto in two church cantatas in the autumn of 1726 (BWV 49 and BWV 169) at which time he assigned the solo part to the organ. Perhaps the original concerto is not much older than these cantatas for the siciliano slow movement is closely related in expression to many numbers from his great Passion settings. Urtext of the New Bach Edition Full score & parts (BA5225) two-keyboard reduction (BA5225-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

Debussy composed the Petite Suite in 1888 when he was 26. The period up to 1890 was a time in which Debussy's later distinctive impressionistic style has not yet emerged. The Petite Suite shows the influence of the French lyric opera composers Gounod and Massenet as do most of Debussy's pre-1890 compositions. The work could be considered neo-classical because it contains pseudo-dance movements and because of the style of Keyboard writing used through which Debussy pays a kind of homage to the French clavecinists. Scored for 1 Piano 4 Hands
