John Tavener 's Coplas composed in 1970 for SATB Choir. Score and performance CD. ' Coplas is a short anthem for voices and tape. It belongs to a much larger work called 'Last Rites' which I have been thinking about for about a year. It is based on the mystical idea of St. John of the Cross which obsesses me - the more I live the more I must die. Hence the deliberately static nature of Coplas. In once sense Coplas is a prolonged decoration of the 'et sepultus est' cadence from the Crucifixus in Bach's Mass in B minor. In another sense I think of it not so much as my music but a way of listening to Bach's music. ' - John Tavener John Tavener 's Coplas composed in 1970 for SATB Choir. Score and performance CD. This beautifully presented edition from Novello offers a full Mass setting alongside a Motet both for SATB chorus by Tomas Luis De Victoria. Regarded by many as one of the greatest composers of Spanish renaissance polyphony this Mass setting is rich in his characteristic tonalities and the textures of the sacred choral tradition. Alongside this is the original Motet upon which the Mass setting is based. Both are transcribed and edited by Andrew Parker. The pairing of the two works offers an exciting and fascinating performance opportunity with the devout grandeur of the Mass set against the modesty of the original Motet.

Uses: Easter Easter Sunrise Scripture: Luke 24:1-12 Sunrise Resurrection has the spirit of an early American folk or square dance - a truly celebratory piece of music that is quitedifferent from the usual Easter proclamation. The contrasting slower legato solos are quickly overtaken by the unrestrained joy and exuberance of the choir. Ideal for use as an anthem or an introit for Easter.

Davies discovers aspects of himself in examining one of his most troubled predecessors. That discovery can take place either on his home ground (in the mezzo-soprano version writen for The Fires of London) or with chorus singingGesualdo's O Vos Omnes and repeatedly falling silent so that the musical argument may continue on a different plane that of Davies's four meditations for sextet murmuring darkly about Gesualdo's ideas. The viola doublesthe violin and the glockenspiel doubles the marimba. The harpsichord is doubled by the celeste chamber organ or harmonium. Duration c. 20mins.

Helen Grime wrote this Christmas carol for the Hallé Youth Choir to sing at the close of 2013. The words are from an anonymous medieval cradle song. Grime said of the piece: “I haven’t written much choral music before so it’s really exciting for me. And I know they’re an absolutely fabulous choir.
