Suite for Orchestra- Incidental music with the famous 'Sicilienne' Fauré wrote “Pelléas et Mélisande” in 1898 originally as incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck’s like-named play. After the premiere and subsequent performances he set about reworking the musical material into an orchestral suite. The premiere of the originally three-movement suite took place in February 1901 under the baton of Camille Chevillard. In December 1912 the four-movement version of “Pelléas et Mélisande” was finally premiered. The additional movement the Sicilienne was taken from the third interlude of the incidental music. This delightful piece would later become one of Fauré’s mostpopular compositions and now exists in countless arrangements. Bärenreiter’s new scholarly-critical edition of the four-movement orchestral suite “Pelléas et Mélisande” Op.80 is based on “ Gabriel Fauré The Complete Works” Volume IV/2 which appeared in 2016. First Urtext edition Based on “ Gabriel Fauré The Complete Works” Score and orchestral parts available for sale (BA7895)

Charpentier composed “ In Nativitatem Domini Canticum ” during his period as maître de musique at the church of St Louis in Paris (around 1690). It is in the tradition of the oratorios of Carissimi and his contemporaries but is more easily described as a “Grand Motet” or “Histoire sacrée” a genre in which Charpentier excelled. The work was probably intended for performance during mass on Christmas Day and thus had a liturgical function as was customary during the period of Louis XIV in Paris. The text presents the Christmas story in three sections: the chorus of the faithful the actual story of the birth of Jesus and the adoration ofthe shepherds in the fields. The music reveals a subtle mixture of French and Italian styles with dramatic elements. For the first time this work prepared by the acknowledged Charpentier expert Joel Schwindt is presented in a scholarly-critical edition where all sources have been consulted. A detailed foreword and critical commentary provide detailed information which fulfil all the criteria of an Urtext edition. - First Urtext edition of this work. - An important addition to the repertoire for Christmas. - Straightforward clear Piano reduction. - Foreword (Ger/Eng) and critical commentary (Eng). - Full score performance material (BA7673) & Vocal score (BA7673-90) available for sale.

Cheryl Frances-Hoad 's One Life Stand for Mezzo-Soprano with Piano accompaninment sets a text by Sophie Hannah . 'The idea for One Life Stand originated from a discussion over lunch in Cambridge with my friend Jennifer Johnston. She was bemoaning the fact that although she loved to sing Schumann's Frauen-Liebe und Leben (Women's Lives and Loves) and was always being asked to do so she did find Chamisso's words rather outdated and suggested I write an updated version. I jumped at the chance and by pudding we were already thinking about whose poetry I might set. A few weekslater during a meeting with Chris Gribble (Chief Executive of Writers' Centre Norwich) he told us that the crime writer and poet Sophie Hannah had recently moved to Cambridge and had many suitable poems. It wasn't long before we all met up for lunch and began discussing the contenders for a series of poems that might portray a modern woman's life and loves. To begin with I had a list of about twenty five poems that I would have liked to set taken from four of Sophie's poetry collections ( The Hero and the Girl Next Door (1995) Hotels like Houses (1996) First of the Last Chances (2003) and Pessimism for Beginners (2007: all published by Carcanet Press) but the final eight in my view come together to form a narrative that is clear yet open to interpretation and contains the whole gamut of complex emotions (both serious and humorous) that made the poems such a dream to set to music. Although the idea for the work originated as a reaction to Chamisso's poetry in the course of composing the cycle I found much inspiration from Schumann's song cycle and many of the songs in my work are based very closely on either the harmony and/or the motivic material of what in my view is the corresponding song in Frauen-Liebe und Leben .' - Cheryl Frances-Hoad

The Queens Service-SATB and organ Stanford's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F was written in 1872 while the composer was a choral and organ scholar at Queens' College Cambridge. Though early in date the work already shows his remarkable talent for composition and his gift for writing large-scale choral music. Edited by Ralph Woodward a latter-day organ scholar of Stanford's old college the setting is entitled The Queens' Service to distinguish it from the more well-known service in the same key. The work has been recorded by Queens' College Chapel Choir on Mirabilis Records (MMSCD4).

Zulu Folk Song-Jabula Jesu is not hard to learn and yet creates very rich textures that allow for great variety in shaping and phrasing. The piece can be performed completely unaccompanied but two or more percussionists can be added as desired. Jabula Jesu is based on an African folk song and uses the standard SATB choir to layer polyrhythms and ostinato in fragmented phrases that repeat across the song. Although unaccompanied the piece features parts for two optional percussionists if desired.
