Jan Van der Roost was commissioned to write this hymn by the “International Association for Human Rights” in Frankfurt. The commission specified that the instrumentation of this simple hymn should be so that it can be performed by a variety of combinations of players. The piece starts with an “intrada” for brass ensemble based on the first bars of the hymn but is “ad libitum” and can therefore be omitted. The coda can also be left out depending on the available instrumentation. The piece should be played “legato” to accentuate its hymn-like character.

(This Train is Bound for Glory) Trombone Ensemble Feature-This infectious arrangement uses the old spiritual This Train is Bound for Glory as a boogie style feature with the trombone section as soloists. The train can hardly stay on the rails because the coaches can’t stop dancing! Along the way see how many other famous train references you can hear. A fantastic piece that’s great fun to play.

This is one of Handel's most well known and love choral works. Here Andre Thomas provides a practical modern edition making the piece more useable for our choirs and audiences. The long introduction has been shortened and the keyboard part is a reduction of the orchestration(not a continuo part). This edition can be performed with piano two oboes and bassoon. This is a great festival piece for high school voices.

Prelude And Ant Fugue With A Crab Canon for Ensemble was composed by Per Nørgård in 1982. Programme Note: The work was commissioned by Nieuve Ensemble (New Ensemble) in Holland and was premiered in December 82 in Amsterdam. As the title suggests the work refers to the baroque genre prelude and fugue but seen through the 20.th century consciousness: The prelude is based - bar for bar - on the famous Bach-prelude in C major from the Well Temperated Piano I which is reflected as in a prism where the 5 inherent parts are magnified or transposed to other octaves or its basic rhytm of 8:5:3 is widered to bigger stretches (or reduced to smaller) keeping its golden section - proportion. The Crab Canon as well as the fugue is inspired by Escher the Dutch aartist creating the Illusionary Realism (with wrong but convincing perspectives etc.) in the way that a real fugue never is undertaken but a rush of parts is always interlocking - and in a big hurry. After a slower cadenza-like section the work closes with a combinatioin of the Bach-prelude-ending and the Fugue theme. Christ The Lord Hath Risen is an anthem for Eastertide. It is scored for Unison Voices Chorus (ad lib) and Organ and takes its text from a 12th Century English carol. Craig Seller Lang (1891-1971) was a British composer organist and musical pedagogue who was born in New Zealand. He studied at the Royal College of Music before becoming a teacher at Christ’s Hospital School. His compositions were mostly written with a student performer in mind. He is best remembered for his seminal educational Organ books but he also created prolific volumes of material in both sacred and secular choral genres.

Shostakovich's last work the Sonata For Viola And Piano Op.147 is a superbly crafted Sonata in three movements with unusually a slow Adagio movement for the third. It was dedicated to the violist Fyodor Druzhinin a professor of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and a member of the Beethoven String Quartet a renowned Moscow ensemble that played at the premieres of most of Shostakovich’s string quartets. Fyodor Druzhinin and Mikhail Muntyan premiered the Viola Sonata in Leningrad on October 1 1975. The solo Viola part is also included on a separate insert.

Autograph: Royal College of Music London- Facsimile of the autograph score in the Royal College of Music London - With a commentary by Robert Levin. 74 pp. facsimile 40 pp. of commentary (Eng/Ger). Half-leather binding. In his fascinating preface to Bärenreiter's facsimile Professor Colin Lawson Director of the Royal College of Music describes the journey made by Mozart 's autograph following its sale in 1800 by Constanze Mozart 's widow to its eventual resting place in London SW7 where it is the jewel in the RCM's extensive collection of historic manuscripts. The Piano Concerto in C minor K.491 is oneof Mozart 's greatest Piano Concertos not least because of the dramatic character of its minor key (it is one of only two Piano concertos composed in minor keys). It also has the largest Orchestra he ever used in a Piano concerto and the only Piano concerto to use both Oboes and Clarinets. Written in 1786 during a period of almost feverish activity it was completed only 22 days after the A major concerto K.488 and during composition of The Marriage of Figaro. The autograph is exceptional in that Mozart records sketches that he later enlarged and extensively revised for the score thus allowing us an insight into his creative process. Mozart 's work appears here for the first time in a colour facsimile making it possible to easily recognise the contrasting colours of ink. The renowned Mozart scholar and pianist Robert Levin has written an illuminating commentary. He explains Mozart 's method of composition and guides the reader page by page through the autograph. This high-quality facsimile truly is a fascinating insight into Mozart 's art of composition.
