Paul Mealor's Spectred Light score and parts for flute (dbl piccolo) clarinet in Bb and piano (dbl suspended metal wind chimes). The title of Paul Mealor's Spectred Light refers to the ghostly lights sometimes seen at night or twilight over rivers or lakes. Tales of the ‘Spectred Lights’ can be found in numerous folk tales around the world and it is often depicted as a malicious character in these stories. In Welsh folklore it is said that the light is 'fairy fire' held in the hand of a ‘pwca’ - a small goblin-like fairy that leads lone travelers off the beaten path at night. As the traveller follows the pwca through the marsh the fire is extinguished leaving the man lost. This short work for Flute Clarinet and Piano is an attempt to depict through sound thisstrange phenomenon. The piece flickers into life and though a series of asymmetric variations leads the listener into a maze of aural colours. As the music reaches breaking point it disappears upwards and dissolves into metal wind-chimes. Out of this a short respite is heard before the music finally hurtles into its finale – a blaze of virtuosity. Spectred Light was commissioned by and dedicated to virtuoso clarinetist Esther Lamneck.

Schwarz tell the story of the German girl Anne Frank who lived in hidden rooms of an Amsterdam town house until her family was betrayed and deported to Auschwitz where they all - apart from herfather - went to their deaths. The composer who himself is the father of two daughters has illustrated various scenes from this young girl's short life in a dramatic and cinematic style.

This composition tells the exciting story of Blackjack the pirate ship. She emerges from the fog sails billowing as she cruises the ocean. Suddenly a strange ship appears on the horizon and a battle ensues. Blackjack fires a salvo of canons and hijacks the ship. Loaded with plundered treasure the crew merrily hoist the sails of the Blackjack and embark on their next adventure.

This authentic arrangement of ten movements from the Water Music suites dates from Handel’s lifetime but is published here for the first time edited by the distinguished Handel scholar Donald Burrows. Its simple light scoring makes it excellently suited to use by schools and small instrumental groups. It can be performed in many different combinations from the original two violins bassoon and continuo to string quartet or wind-based group.

Rococo music is characterised by a profusion of ornaments by graceful elegance and lightness of writing. Concerto Rococò consists of three movements: Toccata Elegie and Gigue en Rondeau - typical musical forms of that time. The concerto is very demanding on the technique of the soloist but consequently highlights the flute’s agility and lyricism.
