This work was composed in 1891 and revised in 1917. The first complete performance was given on 29th January 1919 in New York by the Russian Symphony Orhestra with the composer as Soloist. This is a Piano reduction for 2 Pianos 4 Hands.

Cheryl Frances-Hoad 's The Dreams That Fly from Me for solo String Quartet and String Orchestra. Score. The Dreams That Fly From Me is a ten minute work for solo string quartet and string orchestra. It is in two movements (one slow one fast) that are played without a break. I spent ten years at the Yehudi Menuhin School (a specialist music school for string and piano) growing up so this piece cannot help but be strongly influenced by the music I played in the school orchestra during this time. In particular the work is influenced by Elgar's Introduction and Allegro Strauss's Metamorphosen (for twenty-three solo strings) and Tippett's Concerto for DoubleString Orchestra although the harmonic language of the piece (which is essentially very jazzy) helps to obscure these musical references. In terms of extra musical inspiration the work was inspired by a poem by Ivan Goll called Bloodhound which includes the lines Catch the dreams that fly off from me.... And savage the ankles of my fleeting angel I was inspired by the idea of a fleeting angel which at a time when I had been having difficulties composing seemed very poignant: the angel of the poem seemed to be a poetic representation of my inspiration. Born in Paris in 1899 Francis Poulenc soon became a notable composer and pianist. His Trois Pièces for Piano were composed in 1928 towards the beginning of his career and paved the way for exceptional Piano works from the composer. Poulenc as a member of Les Six composed music in a style contrary to that of Richard Wagner and impressionists Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Jephtha is Handel’s last oratorio. Handel had to break off from composing several times because of his increasing blindness in 1751. The first performance at the Covent Garden Theatre in February 1752 was the last performance he conducted before he went completely blind. In Jephtha Handel succeeded in achieving the perfect fusion between a biblical plot and the spirit of classical tragedy. With great intensity and dramatic expression he highlighted in particular the fates of Jephtha and Iphis thereby portraying convincing and complex characters. The chorus How Dark O Lord are Thy Decrees at the end of parttwo is of crucial importance in the work and is regarded as the dramatic high point of the oratorio. The vocal score is based on volume I/30 of the Halle Handel Edition (BA 4014) which contains the complete critical version of the music of the oratorio for the first time. It contains a detailed foreword in German and English and a clear straightforward Piano reduction.
