Celtic music is enjoying a well-deserved revival. This revival may have been inspired by historical Hollywood epics by popular dance acts such as ”Riverdance” by Michael Flatley or purely by the emotional power of Celtic melodies. The songs all tell stories that have been passed down through successive generations with more facets than any other kind of traditional music: some are melancholy dirges some playful and lively dance tunes. This book brings together 20 of these traditional melodies in contemporary modern arrangements for mixed chorus. In them you will find homophonic movements sweeping melodic lines vocal imitations of Celtic instruments and rousingrhythms. The irresistible charm of this music will leave no choral singer unmoved and is bound to find favour with audiences.

This poem by Longfellow is mainly in unison breaking into two parts at the end of stanzas and in the coda where the voices pick up the snowflake motif from the piano. For 2-Part Treble voices with Piano accompaniment. An evocative piece based on a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The falling snow is defined by delicate descending piano triplets and and a chant-like vocal line conjures imagery of stark winter landscapes.

for flute viola and harp-Three Shades Without Angles is a piece that plays with the idea of transformation of musical shapes. When writing this piece I was inspired by Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Three Shades a detail sitting atop the sculptor’s work The Gates of Hell depicting a scene from Dante’s The Inferno. Although my music is not representative or depictive of Dante or an image of hell I was deeply drawn to the sinewy character of Rodin’s work its intensity muscularity consistency and the way in which movement and energy is represented in his shapes - Hannah Lash

Quartet for Saxophones is a piece for four Saxophones composed by Alfred Desenclos in 1964 which lasts around 15 minutes and 30 seconds. Initially written for the Marcel Mule Quartet Quartet for Saxophones is a typical French quartet quite smooth and suave. The beginning of the piece that sets up the Soprano Saxophone against the others is quite jazzy but then it continues on to a more lyrical part quite slow with a simple melody. The tension is gradually built up and the finale unison is introduced quite dramatically with some bursts of energy. This Quartet for Saxophones would fit a Quartet of advanced to professional players. Alfred Desenclos (1912-1961) is a FrenchComposer who won the Prix de Rome in 1942. He also composed masses such as 'Messe de Requiem' and other pieces for Double Bass Harp Flute Trumpet or French Horn. Continuing in the tradition of her innovative electroacoustic band works including Paper Cut Immersion and Tight Squeeze Alex Shapiro's Liquid Compass takes the musicians and the audience on a journey that spans the mystical and the triumphant. A subliminal connection to the sea is conveyed through the creative use of metal bowls filled with water and flutists will particularly enjoy the otherworldly ooh-wah effect that wends through the piece. Commemorating¦the 140th anniversary of Carthage College's wind band this work¦migrates to different places but never loses its bearings in pursuit of a musical true north.
