after the Sonata for Violin and Piano- Janá ek ’s masterpiece in a convincing arrangement for Clarinet. Foreword by the arranger (Eng/Cz/Ger) This arrangement of the well-known Violin sonata is based on the volume of the Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Leoš Janá ek (Series E/1–2). The Israeli clarinetist Shirley Brill who teaches at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin has arranged the work for her instrument with a sensitive ear for the sound quality of the original composition. Her version displays the specific potential of the Clarinet to good advantage; in a few passages it proved necessary to adapt the Piano accompaniment. The arrangement was commissionedfor the International Janá ek Competition 2014 in Brno (Czech republic).

With the onset of the REM sleep phase however in which most dreams take place and where the day’s events are worked through we hear other sounds played. With distorted sounds reminiscent of an old gramophone the music pulls the listener inevitably ever deeper into the dreamscape in a very realistic dangerous situation that comes to a dramatic head. It triggers a desperate struggle between theimpulse to awaken and the exhausting urge to flee. For a short moment it seems as if the wakeful urge has won out before dream’s powerful spell is again cast and there’s no escape…

The reverence and awe of the words resonate in the poised strophes and silences of Ronald Corp 's new setting for SATB a memorable addition to the repertoire of music for times of penitence and to the surprisingly small corpus of interpretations including those by Lennox Berkeley Adrian Willaert John Dunstable and King John IV of Portugal (attributed) of this text in particular.

Requiem canticorum is a five-movement work of 12 - 14 minutes’ duration. Its title means 'a Requiem of song' or 'a Requiem of canticles' indicating that it is a commemorative piece which sets texts associated with theRequiem mass rather than being a full Requiem. It is scored for choir soprano saxophone and organ a scoring it shares with the 'Son of God Mass' by the same composer. It can be performed as a concert piece or as afree-standing anthem within the context of a commemorative event or liturgy. ‘Requiem canticorum’ can also be performed in conjunction with selected movements from the ‘Son of God Mass’ to make a full concert Requiem. Thekey-structure of the two works allows for a seamless intertwining and in concert should be performed in the sequence indicated below. When performed in this way the sequence can be given the title 'Requiem' or 'Requiem Son of GodMass' in a concert programme. Beethoven's Mass In C was commissioned by Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy for the name-day of his wife Princess Maria and was first performed on 13 September 1807. Beethoven's setting continues the series of six great Masses composed by Haydn in previous years for the same occasion. King Arthur was the only one of Purcell's professionally produced operas to have been designed as a semi-opera; the others were all adaptations of earlier plays. Dryden made a real attempt to integrate the music into the drama but since he ascribed to the dramatic conventions of the period which virtually confined music to allegorical or supernatural beings and thier worshippers or servants shepherds and similar characters the main action mostly occurs in the spoken sections and even the two singing characters Philidel and Grimbald speak more than they sing.
