for Tuba and Piano-When Tantalus a figure from Greek mythology invited the gods to a banquet he served them his son Pelops whom he had cut into pieces. He did so to test whether his guests were omniscient. As a punishment Zeus sent Tantalus to Tartarus the deepest part of the underworld to suffer everlasting torture. The term ‘torment of Tantalus' refers to this predicament representing things much desired but that are out of reach. Kevin Houben used the story of Tantalus as inspiration for this composition.

Wolfgang Plath writes in the preface to volume IX/27/1 of the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe (p.IX): 'The dedication inscription allegedly written by Leopold Mozart and dated 31. Oktober 1762 turned out to be a crude forgery. There remained an anomymous piano- and music-book from about 1750 of Central German provenance without any relationship to Mozart.'

Justorum Animae is an anthem for the offertory on the Feast of All Souls scored for five voices. Written in 1607 by William Byrd it has been edited by Barclay Squire and is presented here with a Keyboard reduction for rehearsal purposes. William Byrd (c. 1540-1623) was an English renaissance composer who wrote several well-known works in both the Catholic and Anglican traditions many of which are still highly popular today. He studied under Thomas Tallis at the Chapel Royal before becoming Organist and Master of the Choristers at Lincoln. He later returned to the Chapel Royal as Gentleman and Organist.
