The work is not really a chorale cantata at all but its spacious opening chorale movement induced Bach to keep it among the chorale cantatas when he later revised the order of the cycle. Composer Note: In setting George Mackay Brown's acrostic lines for the birth of Lucy Randall (the first child borne in Rackwick Hoy for 32 years) I set myself the uncharacteristic problem of banishing all black' notes - that is the work used only the white' notes on the piano - a symbolic conceit' I had not tried before. The music has the gentle rocking rhythm suitable for its purpose and I enjoyed writing the tune so much I repeated all of the text in order to hear it twice. -Peter Maxwell Davies

This Edition reconstructs for the first time the structure of the autograph score which reflects the collective contributions of at least five different hands: having composed only four entirely new numbers and repurposed another three from Sigismondo Rossini relied upon collaborators and copyists for the remainder of the music. Della Seta's detailed examination of this fundamental document (housed at the Fondazione Rossini) together with an informed assessment of the secondary sources including a complete manuscript copy (housed at the British Library in London) various manuscript vocal parts with Rossini's autograph interventions (housed in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels) and the first edition of the vocal score published by Ricordi between 1855 and 1859 additionally reveals how the libretto printed in Lisbon for that single historic performance in 1826 differed substantially from the narrative disposition of the autograph score with ample cuts and modifications (among those the suppression of the Aria Alì and the addition of a Coro). While neither attributable to Rossini himself nor pertaining to his original conceptual design of the opera this Coro the music of which survives in the first vocal score is included as an Appendix to the edition. All blues music is connected by a characteristic chord progression and this format can be used in numerous forms and styles. In the thirteen pieces in Blues Cruise the blues are presented in thirteen individual ways. Major and minor keys are used and many diverse forms of the blues are dealt with. In the thirteen first-class pieces in Blues Cruise blues-music is presented in several ways. Major keys as well as minor keys occur and many different blues styles are covered. A broad spectrum of Blues can be discovered and furthermore improvised in many different styles. The CD includes styles of Blues like Hip Hop Bossa Nova or Reggae; it includes a play-along version as well. Cruise the Blues!

Concert March- Playday! is a concert march for wind band that displays the composer’s sheer joy at writing music. He was in fact writing another piece of serious music when a sudden burst of inspiration came to him - he knew he had to put the other piece aside to start work on this special march immediately. Excited to get his music into writing and share it with the world the march was completed in just three short days. Full of fun and playful sounds Playday! opens up many imaginative possibilities within the familiar concert march form.

In addition to 4 piano concertos Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) also wrote some symphonies. The clarinet solo from the adagio in his second symphony opus 27 is probably one of the most beautiful melodies from this period.

The Turtle Dove is without a doubt one of the most well-known British folk songs right up there with the likes of Greensleeves or Drink to Me Only. The Turtle Dove has been skillfully arranged for concert band by Swiss composer and arranger Etienne Crausaz carefully keeping the mood and intimacy of the original melody.
