He is best remembered for his operas yet his Fantaisie Légende for Horn remains popular as a competition work at the Paris Conservatoire. Fantaisie Légende is a chromatic work for Horn in F first popularised in the 1899 solo Horn contest at the Paris Conservatoire. Fantaisie Légende exploits chromatic techniques by use of complex rhythms and variations in articulation as well as lyricalpassages.
