Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) is especially known for his ‘Peer Gynt Suite’. This remarkable Marche Funèbre however is an almost unknown masterpiece originally written for wind orchestra. Erik Mast who adjusted this imposing music in a brilliant way made this composition suitable for today’s strength. An unexplored masterpiece!

Arranged for two pianos by Leonard Bernstein-From the time of Copland's first visit to Mexico City in 1932 when his friend Carlos Chávez took him to a nightclub called El Salón México Copland wanted to compose a piece about the unusual dance hall. He said I was attracted by the spirit of the place and by the Mexican people. Using Mexican melodies seemed appropriate. My purpose was not merely to quote literally but to heighten without in any way falsifying the natural simplicity of Mexican tunes. Much to Copland's surprise and delight El Salón México was welcomed warmly in Mexico and has consistently been one of his most performed pieces. He said Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the kind of acceptance for thepiece! 2 Pianos 4 Hands. Copland A

Three Washington Statues was commissioned by the United States Army Band “Pershings Own” led by Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier. Washington D.C. contains some of the world’s most iconic monuments memorials and statues. Philip Sparke has chosenthree of these as the inspiration for this piece: ‘The Lincoln Memorial’ in the form of a Greek Doric temple in which the composer depicts the grandeur of this monument; ‘The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial’ on which steps the iconic speech ‘I havea dream’ was given - the music is both reverential as well as powerful referring to Martin Luther Kings’ speech; and the ‘Encore’ statue in memory of the world famousAfrican-American composer pianist and bandleader Duke Ellington. In this finalmovement Philip Sparke catches the virtuosic energetic and unique dynamism of Ellingtons’ music.

Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work though it actually refers to “Nulli Secundus” the motto of the British Corps of Army Music who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp’s own marches and a festive Vivace . A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!

G minor BWV 1058- In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings in G minor BWV 1058 is the last complete work in the original autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. Ms. Bach 234). However it only came to occupy this position later when the manuscript wasbound. It stands at the very outset of the genesis of this group of works and marks the earliest stage in Bach's efforts to transform concertos for melody instrument and strings into harpsichord concertos. In this case the original model the Concerto for Violin and Strings in A minor (BWV 1041) has survived thereby allowing us to examine Bach's technique of arrangement in detail. - Urtext of the New Bach Edition - Full score & parts (BA5230) two-keyboard reduction (BA5230-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

for Flugel Horn and Band-This work marks yet another addition to Otto M. Schwarz’s catalogue of solo repertoire and will be especially welcome due to the rarity of solos for flugel horn! Groovy accents create an exciting contrast to the more flowing musical elements. Simple improvisations complement the piece which contains a catchy tune that will stay with anyone who plays or listens to the work. The solo part is also available in an edition with piano accompaniment (1961-13-401 M).

First Position - Volume 4- These volumes contain a wide selection of easy recital pieces. They are designed as companion volumes to the Early Start on the Viola method but work equally well as a supplement to any other viola method. As all pieces are written entirely in first position they can be used just after a few months of lessons. Well-known as well as unfamiliar pieces provide welcome additional repertoire for young students and teachers. The piano part may be played by the teacher or an advanced student. Alternatively a second viola part allows duet playing with the teacher during lessons. The Viola Recital Album Volume 1 can be used as a supplement to the Early Start on theViola method Volumes 1 and 2 (BA 9686 and BA 9687). The 18 pieces in Volume 1 are structured to follow the same progression of finger patterns introduced in the Early Start method. This systematic progression helps the student to solidify the hand position and improve intonation. The basic bowing techniques do not require changes in bow speed or sounding point. The young performer can focus on a straight and beautifully placed bow that produces a pleasing and clear sound. - New pieces to supplement the Sassmannshaus Viola method - All pieces in first position - Include an additional viola part for duet version and a piano accompaniment

A Tale as Yet Untold was commissioned by the Cory Band for the European Brass Band Championships in Linz Austria 2010 and their winning performance gave them a hattrick of victories at the competition. The theme of this impressive work which is set in three movements is one that recurs again and again throughout the music of Philip Sparke the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity and how the beauty of music can help in this respect.
