French Carol-Composer Troy Robertson sets the traditional Burgundian carol for mixed voices with flute and finger cymbals/hand drum. The interesting rhythmic twists make it an excellent choice for high school or college/university voices. Wonderful selection for a holiday concert!

There are three mysteries about this piece by Purcell originally scored for Viols. When it was written for what purpose it was written and why the eccentric title ‘Chacony’ rather than the French ‘chaconne’ are questions whoseanswers are all shrouded in the mists of time. The suggested dates of early 1680’s and as a piece of light music for some sort of theatrical performance almost answer two of the three questions. The Chacony is scored here forString quartet but could be played by a larger ensemble.

Per Nørgård’s fantastic 1987 work Poeme for Marimba and other accompanying Percussion instruments. Norgard is one of the most influential contemporary Danish composers and this piece features elements of improvisation and the driven tones and abruptly changing textures which characterise the majority of his work from 1980.

Danse Negre is a lively little piece with a performance time of approximately 2 minutes. Composed in 1908 it was originally scored for solo Piano but it has been arranged here for Piano Duet by Esther Fisher . It is the perfect piece for any pair of pianists looking for their first duet to perform. Cyril Scott (1879-1970) was a British composer pianist and poet. His most popular works which he is largely remembered by today were written in the years preceding the Second World War however he continued to compose prolifically in the face of indifference from the outside world right up until his death at the age of 91. His musicis predominantly in the Romantic style and serves as a tasteful reminder of a bygone age.

Arsenal was composed for the 50th anniversary of the ‘Harmonie van het Spoorwegarsenaal’[railroad arsenal] based in Mechelen (Belgium). Rather a stately concert march it has beautiful themes and a broad melody in the trio. It was premiered in the Mechelen Cultural Center on the 11th of May 1996 during the solemn ceremony opening the anniversary year and conducted by the composer. In the mean time Arsenal has been recorded several times by such renowed performers like the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra the Black Dyke BB etc.

German Traditional Carol-This is an amazing rhythmic setting of the traditional German carol. Scored for SATB mixed voices with piano the 7/8 meter provides new life to a work known to many of us. A good high school choir would really take to this piece!

She's Madonna was a 2007 hit single for world pop mega-star Robbie Williams. This up-beat single has a 1980's electro/pop feel due to it being a colaboration with The Pet Shop Boys. A classic song from one of today's biggest names in pop music.

A 2008 John Ness Beck Foundation winner the piece is set to a William Austin text and is scored for mixed chorus with piano. Excellent for both holiday concert or worship settings.

Gilbert O’Sullivan rose to fame in the 1970s. Dressed in his cap and golfing trousers he sat at the piano and sang charming and cheerful songs. Roland Kernen has produced this arrangement of Matrimony - one of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s most popular hits.

Intermediate level pieces for trumpet and piano- Excursions are eight exciting musical journeys for trumpet and piano taking you to Spain the Sahara or the Antarctic. On each of these trips the intermediate trumpeter has to face a special - very trumpet-specific - challenge of a musical or technical nature. This could be using various mutes looking at ways to correct your intonation or adding ornaments. On the CD the trumpet part was recorded live by Allen Vizzutti; for each piece an accompaniment to play-along with is also provided. Playing together with a pianist is rewarding for both musicians as these pieces are actually duets for trumpet and piano as equal partners.

Evelyn Rothwell (1911-2008) was a British musician who was considered one of the best oboists of her generation. She arranged Two Songs by Mozart for Oboe and Piano in 1969. Das Lied DerTrennung (“Song of Separation” K. 519) was written in 1787 for Male Voice and Piano setting a text by Klamer Eberhard Karl Schmidt. Set in a minor key it explores the feelings of angst and pain created as two lovers areseparated. Un Moto Di Gioia Mi Sento (“I feel a surge of Joy” K. 579) by contrast is a much happier piece. It was written in 1789 when Mozart was revising his famous opera The Marriage of Figaro and was originally written as a Soprano Aria.

Such jazz legends as Dick Wellstood Alphonse 'Doc' Cheatham and George Duvivier and more back you up in this amazing collection of New York-style Dixieland standards. After the break-up of the big-band era around 1950 many of the finest 'swing' or mainstream players found themselves without an outlet for their abilities and took to playing 'Dixieland' in New York clubs such as Eddie Condon's and the Metropole. And so was born a new style of Dixieland jazz minus the banjos tubas steamboats and magnolias! It is this version we celebrate on this album. We encourage you the soloist to invent counter-melodies rather than mere harmony parts. This is a music of loose weavingparts not one of precision ensemble figures. And in short it is one of the greatest improvisational experiences any jazz player could hope to have. Coast Life is an easy concert work composed by Johan Nijs and orchestrated for concert band. The three movements of this piece describe life on and around the coast. You can visit the bustling harbour take a trip on the sea whether it be calm or stormy or you can take a coast trip - either on the beach or along the promenade. All aspects of the seaside are portrayed in this attractive work.

The famous English guitarist and singer Eric Clapton was born in1945. Before he started his solo career in the seventies he hadalready made his mark in groups like the Yardbirds and Cream.As a solo artist Clapton has many successes to his credit such asI Shot the Sheriff After Midnight and Wonderful Tonight. Hismoving song Tears in Heaven was written for the film Rush in1991. Clapton had the dramatic death of his four-and-a-half yearold son in mind while he wrote it. This song was an enormous hitworldwide and it inspired Roland Kernen to make thisarrangement for flute quartet.Eric Clapton's moving and thoughtful masterpiece Tears In Heaven arranged for Flute ensemble (with optional Piccolo part) by Roland Kernen.
