Minor Blues Harmonica includes introductory material for new players on holding the harmonica achieving a single note and common techniques that sound great on the instrument. Not-so-new players will enjoy learning new songs at their current skill levels. Intermediate players will benefit from learning to play in 3rd Position to broaden their options while performing. Players at a more advanced level will learn to play in minor keysâ'a challenge for harmonica players but less difficult in 3rd Position. This includes a choral opening based on Coventry Carol followed by a call and response litany with piano underscore then a text to be read with the lighting of the advent candle. As that concludes the choir comes back in with the option of adding the congregation for an original melody calling for peace on earth and for the Light of light to end our darkness. A concluding prayer is also provided. There are five total readings one for each candle. Where Angels Fly is a very technical powerful and virtuoso work with a rather fragile and soft introduction in which the main motif – derived from Paul Gilson’s La Prière from Le Retour aux Pays – is developed and also includes Houben’s own musical signature ‘HBE(N)’.
