Townscape was composed for the centenary of the St. Cecilia concertband from Oudenburg a town which also inspired the composer throughout this work. The first part depicts a train slowly approaching from afar and then vanishing into the distance again. This is rendered by a sort of repetitive pulse in the music. This is followed by some serious action with jet skis on the Sinnesael lake. Their spectacular twists and turns are transformed into an exuberant theme and a middle section with several changes of time signature. After that comes a restful lyrical Nocturne a musical painting of the mill at night. The work concludes with a lively finale that is an ode to dailylife in Oudenburg a place where people take initiative and there is plenty to see and do.

Suite for symphonic wind band is a rich orchestral piece that taxes the musicians to the utmost. The first part starts with a lyric melody in the French horn section to be taken over by the full orchestra ending in a kind of anarchistic entrada. The second part starts with a transparently orchestrated polyphonic web slowly passing into a richly arranged wave like movement that stops suddenly leading to the third part's attaca start. This third part is a fragile adagio con tenerezza. The finale is extremely virtuous and feriocious. It is a musical expression of anger fear and despair.

Op. 31 Mwv A 9- Psalm ' Non nobis Domine ' / ' Nicht unserm Namen Herr ' Op.31 MWV A 9 Mendelssohn's first great orchestral psalm took almost six years to complete from the initial sketches and the first version of 1830 to the final version of 1835. Its premiere which took place at the Leipzig Gewandhaus did not take place until 1838. Unlike his other orchestral psalms Mendelssohn took the Latin words from the Vulgate as his principal text which stems from Psalm 113. When he later prepared his own German translation he made use of Psalm 115 from the Luther Bible. This edition by the leading Mendelssohn authorityJohn Michael Cooper incorporates all the relevant sources. In accordance with the work's genesis the vocal parts are underlaid with the Latin text and the German text appears underneath. Rounding off this Urtext edition are an informative Foreword and detailed Critical Commentary. The piano reduction stems from Mendelssohn himself. - Informative Foreword in the score (Ger/Eng) - Text underlay in two languages (Lat/Ger) - Piano reduction by the composer - Full score & parts (BA9079) and vocal score (BA9079-90) avaialble for sale

The inspiration for this piece commissioned by the United States Army Band came from the Gulf and its constant presentation to the world as a media event on television. The composer wanted to capture the colour and events of war as they were played out on the television screen. Composed as a single movement rhapsody the work is framed by the riveting sounds of airborne bombing raids with brass and percussion combining to create a gripping sense of tension.

Mozart composed the majority of his works for solo string instruments and orchestra during the years 1773 to 1779. Especially important in this context are the years 1773 and 1775 which witnessed the creation of the five concertos for Violin and orchestra as well as several single movements for the same scoring. The reasons for this flourish of activity in this domain lie partly in the fact that Mozart who still occupied the post of concertmaster to the Prince-Archbishop was either obliged or inspired to provide such works for special occasions during this long period spent in Salzburg. But another reason was certainly the possibility ofexperimenting with all the new compositional techniques acquired during his third trip to Italy and his stay of several months in Vienna from July to September 1773. New straightforward Piano reduction (BA4863-90) with: - Violin solo part with the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition - Additional violin solo part with fingerings bowings and performance comments - Additional booklet with cadenzas and transitions by L. Rezitative und turbae von Reinhard Keiser (1674-1739)- St Mark Passion (BWV 247): A reconstruction. Recitatives and turbae by Reinhard Keiser (1674-1739). Although all that survives of Bach's St. Mark Passion is Picander's libretto virtually all the arias and choruses can be reconstructed from parody versions. The original recitatives and turbae however are probably lost forever. Rather than rewriting these numbers in Bachs's style the editor Austin Harvey Gomme has added passages from Reinhard Keiser's setting of the Passion (a setting highly esteemed by Bach who performed it several times) thereby allowing this lost work to be performed in its entirety. A detailed prefacesheds further light on this unique reconstruction based on the New Bach Edition. Full score (BA5209) and vocal score (BA5209-90) available for sale Performance material (BA5209-72) available for hire.
