Bach's suites are considered the most artistic and profound keyboard music ever written. The six suites bearing the nickname - French Suites - are considered the most lyrical and pleasurable to the ear. They are also the least technically demanding.

The legends surrounding Saint Catherine of Alexandria also known as the Great Martyr Saint Catherine were the source of inspiration for this work. It depicts events surrounding her life in five musical episodes. The first episode presents the Emperor’s procession and theme. All is well until a heathen sacrificial ritual is heard in the second movement. After the sacrifice Catherine and her lyrical reflective theme make an appearance. A dispute breaks out between Catherine and the Emperor which can be heard in the heated exchange between their respective themes. Catherine is sentenced to die by the breaking wheel. The voices of angels can be heard in the finale asCatherine ascends to heaven.

The Notebook For Wilhelm Friedemann Bach is a collection of Keyboard music compiled by Johann Sebastian Bach for his eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann. The collection consists of versions of the Two- and Three-part Inventions plus earlier versions of 11 preludes from the Well-Tempered Klavier along with several chorale preludes a few transcriptions of other composers' works and possibly some original compositions by Wilhelm Friedemann himself. Trompeten-Ouvertüre- The Overture in C major the so-called Trumpet Overture with its brass fanfare was composed in 1826 and a second version with considerable revisions was made in 1833 for performances in Dusseldorf and London. The Overture in C major was first published posthumously in 1867. Christopher Hogwood's Urtext edition takes into account both Mendelssohn's autograph now held in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris which has two endings as well as the London manuscript copy made for the performance there in 1834; this manuscript contains three separate trombone parts in Mendelssohn's hand. The newBärenreiter edition presents the work as found in Mendelssohn's autograph for the first time. Op. 31 Mwv A 9- Psalm ' Non nobis Domine ' / ' Nicht unserm Namen Herr ' Op.31 MWV A 9 Mendelssohn's first great orchestral psalm took almost six years to complete from the initial sketches and the first version of 1830 to the final version of 1835. Its premiere which took place at the Leipzig Gewandhaus did not take place until 1838. Unlike his other orchestral psalms Mendelssohn took the Latin words from the Vulgate as his principal text which stems from Psalm 113. When he later prepared his own German translation he made use of Psalm 115 from the Luther Bible. This edition by the leading Mendelssohn authorityJohn Michael Cooper incorporates all the relevant sources. In accordance with the work's genesis the vocal parts are underlaid with the Latin text and the German text appears underneath. It is not entirely sure where the melody originates that forms the basis for Norwegian Overture. Most sources point in the direction of a certain J.H. Nebelong in about 1881. It is also possible that he was the first to note down this traditional melody and put his name to it.The lyrics are by a certain A.H. Brorson and were set to the music at a later date. The original title is store hvide flok which means the big white herd. Several composers have used this theme including Edvard Grieg and the Danish Carl Nielsen.
